January is also National Train Your Dog Month!
This annual event is held in January to promote responsible pet ownership and encourage pet owners to get involved with their pets. The Association of Professional Dog Trainers started the event to raise awareness of the importance of training and socialization. Just remember, just because it's a month doesn't mean you only do it for a month. Obedience and socialization is important!

January is Walk Your Dog Month! Get up off that sofa, get moving, and don't let the sub-zero winter temperatures drag you down! Dogs need plenty of exercise throughout the year and the best way to keep them active in winter is to take them for regular walks. Even a short walk around the block on a cold day makes a difference. Regular walks are a great way for both you and your dog to stay in shape and help with overall health. Healthier pets mean fewer trips to the vet! So put on your snow boots, your cozy winter jackets, hats and gloves and make the healthy choice for you and your dog.

Got fleas? We hope not. Blue Grass Vet has seen a major influx of fleas in just these past few weeks. Since 10/7, our doctors have diagnosed 17 pets with fleas (this does not include any other pets that may be in these households). Our math shows that from October 7th, we saw a 94% increase in flea diagnoses from the previous 2 weeks (9/23-10/7/24).
-This is a 58% increase from these two weeks from the same time last year when we only diagnosed 7 cases!
Fleas are VERY serious and we still highly recommend flea/tick prevention year-round. Please call us if your pet is not on any flea/tick prevention.

This week is Veterinary Technician Week! Amanda is such a hard-working and compassionate technician. She is always willing to teach staff new things and take on challenges. Amanda is a crucial part of our team and without her, or any technician, we wouldn't be able to do a lot of things. If you see a vet tech this week, make sure you tell them how appreciated they are! ❤
