Got fleas? We hope not. Blue Grass Vet has seen a major influx of fleas in just these past few weeks. Since 10/7, our doctors have diagnosed 17 pets with fleas (this does not include any other pets that may be in these households). Our math shows that from October 7th, we saw a 94% increase in flea diagnoses from the previous 2 weeks (9/23-10/7/24).
-This is a 58% increase from these two weeks from the same time last year when we only diagnosed 7 cases!
Fleas are VERY serious and we still highly recommend flea/tick prevention year-round. Please call us if your pet is not on any flea/tick prevention.

This week is Veterinary Technician Week! Amanda is such a hard-working and compassionate technician. She is always willing to teach staff new things and take on challenges. Amanda is a crucial part of our team and without her, or any technician, we wouldn't be able to do a lot of things. If you see a vet tech this week, make sure you tell them how appreciated they are! ❤

It's showtime! We will be hosting another FREE Nail Trim-A-Thon for your cats and dogs on 10/12/24 from 9am-11am. Due to the event, we will NOT be open for regular business services Saturday morning so please plan ahead for any food or medication pickups. We will re-open with our regular business hours on Monday, October 14th at 7:30 am.

ATTENTION: Before the week rolls upon us, we would like to inform everyone of our hours. On Monday, October 7th and Tuesday, October 8th, we will be closed from 12pm to 2pm for a staff training and a staff meeting. Please plan ahead for any medication or prescribed food pick ups. We will also be closed on Saturday, October 12th for our Nail Trim-A-Thon from 9am-11am. We will be putting out more information for the event this upcoming week, so be on the lookout! :)

Is your pet's wellness exam up to date? This is Lacy, who came in for her annual wellness exam and showed off her super neat goggles during her appointment. The month of October also happens to be National Pet Wellness Month! This month is all about raising awareness about the importance of preventative care for our pets who cannot advocate for themselves. Today is National World Rabies Day! Vaccinations are the best way to STOP transmission. All dogs and cats, even your indoor-only cats, should always be up to date on their rabies vaccine to keep them safe from this horrible and deathly disease.

Today is , a day to spread awareness for the homeless pets that are still sitting in shelters. Adopting a pet is a huge lifetime commitment, but it is worth it in the end to save a life and have a companion for life.

Thank you to all who have served, currently serve, or plan to serve our country. If you haven't already let us know about your service, please talk to a staff member the next time we speak to you.

On this day of remembrance, we honor the brave men and women who responded with courage during the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We also pay tribute to the many canine heroes who played a vital role in rescue and recovery efforts.

These loyal dogs, alongside their human partners, searched tirelessly through the rubble to find survivors and bring comfort to those affected. Their dedication reminds us of the deep bond we share with animals and the unwavering support they offer in our darkest hours.

As we reflect on this day, let’s take a moment to honor all of the heroes—human and animal—who showed the world the true meaning of bravery and compassion.

We have officially set a date for our 2nd Nail Trim-A-Thon! Mark your calendars for October 12th, 2024 from 9-11am. More details to come, but we will be offering FREE NAIL TRIMS during this time. You do not need to be an established client with us. We just ask that the pet be current on its rabies (dogs and cats), distemper (dogs and cats), and parvo (dogs only) vaccinations. If we have not met your pet before, please bring proof of vaccines. We will be collecting goodwill donations toward our Gentle Doctor fund, but these are not required. Hoping for nice weather and a great turn out!

Hey, everyone! If anyone is looking for some extra time outside, Bear (the cutie pictured below) is currently in need of a regular walker! His dad, Jay, has had a few back surgeries so he unfortunately cannot walk Bear as much anymore. If you or anyone you know may be interested, you can contact Jay Matlock at 563-381-1028 to discuss amount of walks and pay!

Today is National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day! Even if your cat is indoor only, they are still susceptible to respiratory infections and they are always at risk for dental issues. It is important to bring your cats into the vet just as much as dogs because they deserve yearly care to help keep them healthy and happy!
