Big News!

Sly and Fallon have both found wonderful homes! Both horses have found great people who are going to spoil them in every way they can 😁 We truly couldn't ask for better families to come along and love these horses just as much as we do.

Merry Christmas Sly and Fallon, you each got a whole new family under the tree!

Pretty girl Fallon got her first saddling yesterday evening and after a quick protest she handled it really well. We finally got to get the last of the matting out of her tail and she's now fully detangled. She's warming up to the idea of letting her personality really show and it's going to be a great one! She's officially available for adoption and will continue to get an education while she's here with us.

Calling all LSRR friends and supporters! We need your help.

Lone Star Ranch and Rescue must either purchase their existing property or find a new home — quickly. We would like to continue our mission helping horses in the North Texas area, but need your help to do that. Our goal is to raise $650,000, in order to secure our forever ranch. Your donation is greatly appreciated.

Great news! Rita and Sly both saw the vet yesterday and everything is coming along great! Rita is not pregnant and is now up to date on everything and available for adoption. Sly has dropped an enormous amount of weight and is now at a healthy weight, no longer needs medication, and can go out on pasture with a muzzle overnights! The vet was also very pleased with the progress on his hooves and his current soundness level.

*Adoption Alert*

Please give a warm welcome to our newest resident at the ranch! Sly! This sweet tank of a horse has been undergoing some hoof issues for the last couple years and his owner was at her wits end. We picked him up yesterday and took him straight to see the vet to get some new hoof x-rays and some medication to help him lose his excess weight. Despite the outward appearance of his feet, the x-rays look surprisingly promising and we believe that our equine team can get him comfortable again! He will be getting his first trim this evening and we are looking forward to documenting the entire process for his rehab. We feel that some good hoof work and diet will help this guy feel brand new again!

In other, not so exciting, news... our truck is down and has been in the shop since Monday! The alternator and computer that runs it have died and need to be replaced. We're looking at a bill around $1500 and for it to come out of the shop next week. In the meantime, someone has volunteered their truck for us to use, so we can still haul as needed.

Between Sly's vet bills and the upcoming truck repair cost we could really use a helping hoof! Please consider sending a tax deductible donation to us at the link below or to our venmo (), every penny is greatly appreciated and 100% of it goes right back to the animals (or their main hauling vehicle in this case). We are 100% volunteer operated and nobody gets paid for taking care of the animals out here.

Recently we said happy trails to Rip, he's started his new life in the coolest way! He got to be a part of a really neat ceremony and has been absolutely loved by his new people! His new owner will be continuing his training and forming a lifelong bond with this super sweet guy! While we're sad to see him go, we couldn't ask for a better spot for him to land! We'd like to say a special thank you to our friends who helped us transport him up to Oklahoma to be with his new family, it was very much appreciated.

This past weekend we went out to Lone Star Wine Cellars ranch to be a part of their Wine Olympics event and we had a fantastic time! We are forever grateful for the partnership we've formed with such a wonderful family AND that they love 2 of our former horses as much as we do! They adopted both Perci and Boomer from us and we were thrilled to see them living life to the fullest. Both girls are full of life and personality and loved all the visitors this weekend. Check out Boomer trying to find some extra snacks and being her goofy, sweet self! Perci certainly hasn't missed a meal since she first came in to our care so many years ago and never will again with the wonderful care all of the animals get at the ranch.

For those who aren't familiar with Perci's story, we encourage you to look back and see how far she's come since she first arrived at our facility.

Exciting Sunday News!

Rico has joined Galaxy's family and now goes by Orion! We said happy trails to him this afternoon and are over the moon that he is joining one of our previous rescues in his new home! Our little man has gotten so big and we are thrilled to see him go to a wonderful home.

Please give Charlie and Chase a warm welcome to the herd! These sweet, 6yo boys are healthy and immediately ready for adoption. They have been together their whole lives and we don't want to separate them. Both boys are wethers, super sweet, and very quiet (for a goat 😅)! If you're interested in adopting these wonderful boys please give us a hollar!

Rip had a very eventful and successful day today! He started his morning with a spa day so he would be squeaky clean for his surgery. Loaded and unloaded from the trailer like an old pro, came through his surgery extremely smoothly, and had his feet trimmed while he was under anesthesia still. He took a while to wake up, but everything went without complications and he is a brand new boy! His feet should feel MUCH better and he will be on some pain meds the next few days to mitigate any soreness, but as soon as he's all healed up he will be available for adoption! This sweet guy is moving right along!

06/04/2021

We were able to wade through some mud to work with Rip a little this morning.

Despite not getting worked with at all in the last 4 weeks, he was easy to catch and remembered everything we've done with him so far! This sweet guy is one of the most gentle mature stallions we've seen with such little training, his potential for making someone a wonderful partner after gelding is HUGE. We have scheduled his gelding appointment for Wednesday the 9th! It has been estimated that the procedure will cost roughly $300 and we will be hauling him in to ensure there's a clean, dry place for his surgery to take place, any complications can be addressed immediately, and some post-op monitoring can be done by the vets as he is a late geld at 5yo which makes it a little more complicated. If you'd like to give us a helping hoof with the cost of the gelding surgery we would absolutely appreciate it and all donations, no matter the size, are tax deductible!

It's been a while since we've posted, but it's also been a LONG while since it has been dry enough to do anything. It still isn't dry enough, but all the animals are healthy and happy despite current conditions. Due to the rain we have been unable to work with any of the animals so we are just in a holding pattern as we wait for the ground to dry. Please enjoy this photo of Rico, he's growing up fast!

Who Are We?

We are Lone Star. Our family started this organization because we saw a need for more facilities to help horses. There is a huge disparity between the amount of horses in need of rescue and the amount of people willing and able to do so! We center our lives around theirs and all work endlessly to provide the best care possible to make sure they don't end up in the same situations as before.

We are a small operation and do our very best to find the right fit for every animal that comes through our facility. As a 501(c)3, we are completely donation-funded and volunteer-run. If you’d like to join us by donating money, materials or time, please contact us directly. YOU are a big part of what we are able to do for these animals in need. Help us save lives!
