For those of you who are numbers people, here is our 2023 year in review.
We’d also like to share some context on our year end results for 2023. Pawportunities contract with the City of Blue Springs started February 2022. Historical data 2018-2021 shows that prior to our contract they averaged 220 Calls for Service per month. Our average for our first 22 months is 47% higher averaging 323 calls per month.
The Animal Control facilities for the city of Blue Springs only has 7 dog runs and 12 cat kennels - well below the normal for comparable cities our size. From 2018-2021 BSAC averaged 36 animals impounded monthly. During our first 22 months under contract we averaged 68 per month, a 53% increase from previous years In this small 7 run, 12 cat kennel facility. We were able to maintain an average of 68 animals per month all while never having to euthanize for space as has started to become common place in many shelters around the region, as shelters nationwide are in crisis mode due to unprecedented owner surrender and abandonment rates.
In 2023 we were able to reunite 75% of all dogs impounded with their owners.
Pawportunities loves our partnership with the City of Blue Springs, Missouri - Municipal Government and enjoys being able to serve the residents of our community. We have an amazing group of staff and volunteers that allows us to provide growing services for our community.
