Tomorrow is Waived Fee Wednesday and once again, we've found ourselves at critical capacity and desperately need to move dogs out of our building. Tomorrow, we will begin the day with just one open kennel, not nearly enough for the 20-30 dogs who will come through our doors. Today, there are 265 dogs at our Kansas City Campus for Animal Care to care for โ many more than we ever expected to house. We are continuing to do all we can to keep families together, reunite lost pets with their families, and find homes for our shelter pets, but we need our communityโs help now to save lives.
If you are considering adopting, we need you now! There are so many great dogs available for adoption or foster at our Kansas City Campus for Animal Care, our Zona Rosa Adoption Center, our Petco Adoption Center on 95th Street in Overland Park and in foster homes who would love to find their perfect homes just in time for the holidays!
During our Waived Fee Wednesday event all dogs weighing 20 pounds or more that are at least 6 months old are free to adopt at all 3 of our adoption centers and from foster homes! With over 450 dogs in our care, there really is someone for everyone!
If you cannot adopt, there are still ways that you can help alleviate some of the pressure we are feeling.
๐พ Help Lost and Found Pets get back Home -->If you can take some time and try to find the owner of a lost or found pet, that will help us save lives. Most pets are found within a quarter mile of where they live. We have a lot of resources at available to you to help with this at https://kcpetproject.org/services/found-pets/. And if you found a pet outside of Kansas City, MO, you must take them to your local shelter to help them get reunited with their families. We continue to see many pets that are going back home outside of Kansas City, MO, and it's so important for pets to remain in the communities where they are found to be reunited with the families that are looking for them.
๐พ Rehome Your Pet Instead of Surrendering Them to the Shelter --> We have many resources available to rehome pets without surrendering them to the shelter. If you have the time and can try to rehome your own pet, that will help us save lives: https://kcpetproject.org/services/rehoming-support/
๐พ Foster --> If you have room in your home to temporarily help us care for a dog in our shelter, we need you! You can sign up to foster at http://kcpetproject.org/foster or email [email protected]. We need foster homes for large, adult dogs.
๐พ Donate --> It costs us, on average, $475 to care for each pet at our shelter. If you are able donate, visit https://kcpetproject.org/donate/.
We continue to ask you, our community, for support because we need you! We know that we have shared messages like this before - but the dogs just keep coming in. We appreciate your support more than we can say to help us continue to save lives in Kansas City.
