Hey! My name is Rambo. I am 2-3 years old and 55lbs. I was a stray who was never claimed. 😢
The staff tells me that I am a handsome boy and I always have them giggling when I chase my tail. They try to video me doing it but I always stop before they can. I think I’m real funny.
I love to meet other dogs and will sit for treats. I spend my days chasing my tail and begging for attention when a potential adopter walks by my kennel. Sadly I’ve not had anybody come to meet me yet. I’ve been here for 110days. I act like I’ve lived in a home before and love to be with people. I would be house trained easily with a little work and a schedule. I am neutered, up to date on my vaccines and negative for heartworm. Please come meet me, I am a really good boy who just wants a home to call my own. My adoption fee is $35.

Tazewell County Animal Shelter is CODE RED! We are doing everything we can to move animals into loving homes or rescues to avoid having to euthanize for space.
We are receiving numerous calls daily from people wanting to surrender their animals. We have to move animals in order to bring more in.

Abandoning animals is NOT the answer! We came in this mooring to find 6 barely weened puppies left in a plastic tote outside of our food building.

The Code of Virginia is clear about what abandonment is. If you find a dog(s) you need to call animal control for your area. If you need to surrender your dog you will need to be patient with us. SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS PEOPLE!

§ 3.2-6504.
No person shall abandon or dump any animal. Violation of this section is a Class 1 misdemeanor.

We HAVE to move dogs!!
Every available dog is posted on the shelters page. (We do not have any small dogs)
Many are fully vetted and ALL have had DAPPv, capstar, and been dewormed.

We’ve taken in 7 large stray dogs since 5pm yesterday (Friday) and we were already over capacity 😞

Tazewell County pet owners!!
The Margaret Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic Transport bus will be at the Claypool Hill Walmart.

The July transport day is filled.
They will start taking appointments for the August transport on July 30th.

Here's what you need to do:
1) Please call 276-591-5790 to make your appointment. If your animal has a current rabies shot please let them know ahead of time. If not, they can administer it there.
2) If you need financial assistance please message K9 Freedom Rides or send an email to [email protected] Please remember there are others in need so assistance from K9-Freedom Rides will be limited. Please only make an appointment if you can keep it. We will need your name, the pet's name and the date of your appointment to assist you.

You must make your own appointment with the Margaret Mitchell Clinic. If you message the shelter or K9-Freedom rides for an appointment it will not be done.

We want to give a big thanks to Isabella Davis for coming by to visit with the dogs and making this awesome TikTok of our dogs ❤️

James (our “fixer upper” dog) was part of a 13 dog seizure back in March of this year. All of his “siblings” have found rescue or been adopted while James still waits to find his happily ever after. James was by far the shyest of the bunch with little to no social interaction outside of his one owner and we don’t believe he had ever seen outside before coming to us. James has progressed so much. Lately as he has really taken up with one of our staff members and is even learning to play with toys. He’s still extremely shy when meeting new people but we can tell he desperately needs wants to trust and be loved. James has done great when meeting other dogs at the shelter. Due to his fear of being touched without him initiating it we would love to see him in a home with no small children. This is to respect his boundaries… James is only around 3 years old and weighs around 50lbs. We know the right home is out there for this special boy…

Adopted: HAICHI Haichi is a 2-3 year old, 71lb, male. We believe Haichi is an Akita mix based on his temperament and personality. Haichi needs to be the only dog and would do best in a home that has experience with shepherds or akitas. Once Haichi chooses you he is completely loving and loyal.
