Congratulations Grad! Hudson has completed his Basic Obedience 😆 This young boy has been through a lot, and has found himself a home with his fantastic dog mom! He has overcome being shy, at his normal weight, resource guarding, and reactivity outside. Now he can't wait to go outside for walks with his mom and has gained so much confidence during his obedience training.

He loves to play at the dog park and wants to be everyone's friend. Thank you for adopting this precious boy and putting in all the hard work to give him the confidence he needed and the loving home he deserves💞☺️🐶🐾💞

Does your dog demand bark at you when you pick up their favorite toy or the leash perhaps?

We don't reinforce this behavior by just putting the leash on or throwing the toy because you are over it. The dog will never learn what you want them to do without your patience and consistency.

Let's use the leash as an example

1. Pick up the leash calmly and hold onto it.
2. If your dog starts barking, put the leash back down.
3. Tell your dog to do something else (sit, down, a trick, etc.) reward with a treat when successful. Do this a couple times before picking up the leash again.
4. Pick up the leash, and ask for a sit before putting it on. If the dog barks at this moment, the leash disappears again.
5. Repeat this process until you can pick up the leash, have your dog sit while you put it on with no barking.

Congratulations Charlie!!! He has completed his Basic Obedience training. Charlie and his owner now have a much stronger bond. This dog didn't like guests coming into the house, and pulled his owner down the street. Now, he has no problem with visitors and walks beautifully on the leash. Way to go! ❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾

Keep your dogs safe, and teach them to start associating positive things with their crates. It's hurricane season and you want them to be able to relax inside hotel rooms and car rides while in the crate. Here's a great opportunity to get a free one, first come, first serve!

Hurricane season is here and we have many extra small wire cages so if anyone in Beaufort County is in need of a small wire crate for evacuation please let us know. Just private message us and we will schedule a delivery or pickup and this is great for cats too! Just wire crates bc we need plastic in case we have to ship animals out.

Socialization is very very important for your dog. The most critical time to do this is between 8 - 16 weeks old. I can't express enough how important it is to show your dog the world to people, walking on different textures, sounds, objects, etc.

Just because your dog isn't completely vaccinated yet, doesn't mean you keep them in a bubble. Put their paws on the grass, let different adults/children give them treats, meet dogs one at a time as long as the other dog is fully vaccinated and has a clean f***l exam.

Learn about your dog's breed. If it's a breed that naturally has anxiety already, it's even more important to socialize!

How to tell if your dog is playing nice with other dogs:

1. Both dogs are off leash in a safe area playing with natural pauses such as - stopping completely, and shaking their bodies to calm themselves before resuming play.

2. If you see hackles raised and teeth showing, it's time to stop the play by calling your dog to you to let them calm down for a little timeout.

3. Don't let your dog be a bully! If one dog is saying "I've had enough" by trying to get away and nipping back more frustrated, your dog must get the hint and stop pursuing. You can teach your dog to know when to stop by separating them when this happens for a timeout.

4. Always monitor your dog while playing! It's extremely important so that you know when to intervene.

08/24/2023

Do NOT grab things out of your dog's mouth. Instead, toss higher value treats towards the dog. Once they get interested, start tossing further away to make them run to go get it.

Pick up the item they dropped quickly. If you intend on letting them have it back, have them sit or wait before you hand it over.

Always trade your dog for higher value to them to prevent Resource Guarding. You are teaching the dog that approaching them while enjoying whatever is in their mouth is a positive thing and won't feel the need to guard it. Be safe!🐾🐾🐾🐾

Are your dogs driving you crazy? Don't have time or the patience to train or deal with them right now? Give them something to do!

Mental Stimulation Games:

1. Use a muffin tin (disposable is fine too). Put some treats into each compartment and set it on the floor for your dog to find. To make it more challenging, put a ball over a few of the compartments so they really have to work for those treats.

2. Fill up a snuffle mat, treat dispensing ball, or a puzzle toy with delicious treats.

3. Have kongs filled up with dog friendly foods (peanut butter, cream cheese, crushed up kibble mixed with Greek yogurt, applesauce, or cottage cheese in the freezer ready to go. Licking the frozen Kong is a natural calming behavior. Works great while relaxing in the crate for busy times in the house or leaving. Search for more recipes online or on Pinterest!
