***PAPPI UPDATE***
A quick video update to show you just how sweet this boy is and how he has stolen the hearts of all our staff!
We can't thank you all enough for coming to Pappi's aid and helping us to provide him with daily care. While he still has a long way to go, he was able to go home and be on oral medications and come back to the clinic for sedation and daily bandage changes. His healing has come a long way in just one week however open wound management is a tedious process.
His daily visits include sedation with pain management, sterile surgical debridement (removal of all contaminated or dead tissue), extensive cleaning of the wound and the surrounding tissue, and finally applying the new bandage materials. We're hopeful that soon we will be able to close the opening partially.
Thanks to the generous souls who have donated towards his care so far, and to our Doctors matching $1 for $1 every donation that came in, we have been able to help this boy so much and are looking forward to continuing managing his care.
💸If anyone would like to donate for Pappi, we can be found on Venmo, handle: @Carolina_Vet or if you would like to make a donation directly to the owners account, feel free to call us at 843-706-9200 and we can take a donation over the phone. Your donation will be matched 100% by our Doctors and the clinic.
It's not often in emergency medicine an ear infection walks through the door, but sometimes they just can't wait! Shown here is an example of what is known as Otodectes cynotis or ear mites. This is a slide that was done by carefully obtaining a sample of debris within an ear canal which was then applied directly onto the slide. Using a drop of mineral oil, these little guys can be seen swimming around just right at home. Now imagine how your pets ears must feel with THAT going on inside!
Ear mites are near microscopic parasites that fester in the or skins surface. They are highly contagious and can be very irritating to the host they infest. Felines usually the unfortunately fall victim to this role. Signs and symptoms include uncontrollable scratching at ears causing hair loss and drawing blood, shaking head continuously, copious amounts of dark, crusty debris in ears.
If you find your feline friend exhibiting symptoms or notice their ears look to have thick dark debris, contact your local veterinarian for an exam. While it's not a true critical case, ear infections are uncomfortable and can often times be painful, therefore we urge you to use our services so we can get your pet feeling better, after hours and weekends.
