Forget the guinea pig. How about adopting a 1,500-pound dairy cow for your class pet? The Dairy Alliance's “Adopt a Cow” program is an exciting, year-long experience for your classroom. Throughout the program, you’ll get an inside look at dairy farming and be paired with a calf from a working dairy farm in the United States. You’ll receive progress updates, photos, live chats from the farm, activity sheets, suggested lessons that follow Common CORE standards, and even opportunities to write letters to your calf! The best part? It’s FREE!

Visit www.discoverdairy.com/adopt to learn more about the free program. Registration ends September 15.

Seeds are alive! Sure, they're dormant, but if left in a hot garage or damp basement, they will die without ever breaking dormancy. Holding on to seeds for multiple seasons means that every year will yield less and less viability.

When storing, we can do our best to mimic the conditions that create and maintain the dormant state of the seed. This can be broken down into three needs we need to understand. Seeds need to be kept cool, dry, and dark.

Thanksgiving Turkey Reservations

Our 2022 turkeys are at 75% reserved. If you are on the fence about reserving, now is a great time to decide.

 Our Farming practices: We raise heritage Bourbon Reds, which are laid, hatched, and raised free-range (cage-free) on our small farm. These turkeys forage naturally on our wooded pastures and are supplemented with herbs, various plants & trees, acorns, and vegetables grown in our garden. Never any antibiotics, no added hormones.

 How to order: Email us at [email protected] to confirm availability. All reservations are confirmed by receipt of a $20 deposit per turkey. The deposit can be sent as a check, via Paypal or via Square.

 Please include the desired weight range when making a deposit/reservation. Average weights for our Bourbon Reds, after processing, are 7-11 pounds for young hens, 11-19 pounds for young Toms, both at $10.00/lb. Smaller to mid-range weight birds reserve out quickly!

 As always, turkeys will be fresh, not frozen, and come with roasting instructions. We will harvest on-farm Saturday, Nov. 19. Pickups will be on-farm on Sunday, Nov. 20 and Monday, Nov. 21. We do not ship. Balance due at pick up: cash, check, Paypal, Square for debit/credit card.

Repotting tomato seedings

Some of these Beefsteak were already outgrowing their starting cells.

Bigger pots, just a pinch of Tomato Tone in bottom this time, then bury half of plant (up to bottom leaves) in compost rich soil, water in. This will give them stronger roots.

We'll do it again in a few weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Once again we are blessed to provide our Heritage turkeys to wonderful folks that will be shared with their loving families.

It was heartwarming to see so many who have been with us from our beginning. Seeing how their children have grown, watching as they make their annual family photos with Mr. Blue, listening and smiling as they remind us that this trip to see us is now part of their family tradition...gives us tears of happiness just to be a small part of their celebration.

Thank you all for everything and we hope to fulfill those wishes again next year.

From Jackie, Steve and Blue. We thank you!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL.
