At Spanish River Beach, a heartwarming rescue unfolded. Despite initial doubts about whether South Florida Wildlife Center could make it in time, the center's team arrived just after four, even though they usually close at that hour. It was a beautiful effort— A buddy of Freddie my cat foster friend; Angie, and another kind soul on the beach waded into the water, gently guiding the pelican towards the rescue worker. With skill and care, the rescuer swiftly netted the bird. Though they suspected the pelican might have an injury, it wasn’t an emergency situation. Still, they decided it was best to take the bird to a vet for a proper check-up. We’ll know more in a couple of days.

The touching part was seeing another pelican, possibly the bird's mother, floating nearby the whole time, never leaving its side. Angie and the Wildlife Care Center truly made this rescue possible. Angie, especially, was so deeply invested in saving this pelican—she spent the entire day by its side, ensuring it wasn’t alone. It was fantastic to see such dedication and compassion in action.
