Often times we see big piles of halters that have been removed off of slaughter bound horses, today I would like to show you what it looks like when the hind shoes of slaughter horses are pulled, you see their hind shoes are taken off to reduce risk of injury to the horses they are loaded into with in the slaughter truck, so not to injure the other horses and to reduce the risk of bruising the meat of the live horse. I would like you to notice the two shoes that show you the horses part of their side walls still attached to the shoes, slaughter bound horses don't have the luxury of having their shoes taken off like a normal horses, there isn't time to properly do this, so they are literally pried off with parts of the horses hoof and if you notice you will still see nails attached. Once a horse enters the slaughter pipeline they are stripped of everything including dignity, care, compassion, halters and shoes removed and a layer of glue is applied with a " kill tag" the horse no longer has a name, its lost its identity, the only value left is its meat nothing else matters. On the particular day I took these photos there were two large plastic bins filled to the brim with shoes, those were the victims from the last six months. I show you these images so that we never forget that tag number 5420 was a living creature, a horse who had value before ending up being shipped to a slaughter plant never to be heard of or seen again.
We must remember the innocents, and continue to fight the good fight.
In honor of our equine friends.
