There’s a history hidden here in these images. We add to it every now and again when the time is right. Not everyone is with us but those that are know just how special it is. This Saturday we make another memory that I will carry for the rest of my life. Thank you to those who have walked this path with me before welcome to those who walk it now.

Back again in two weeks. Hopefully my new 185 corner will be there as well. We have a lot of moving parts on this one until the end of the year. After that I guess I’ll start on the outdoor enclosures…

Tank number 4 is going to be a rimless macro algae system upstairs utilizing the sump from the 3/4 cylinder on the left.

Tank number 5 is going to be another 3/4 cylinder to match on the other side of the tv. They disassembled the furniture around it already. The two 3/4’s are will share a sump and both be reef. I may have to reposition the left tank because OCD.

In October we’ll move the reef animals from Northport to Ft. Myers and split them between the systems. That tank will become freshwater.

Sweet Apple got some new additions before the Fourth of July break. Tanks getting a thumbs up from the boss again and I can say we’re officially through the darkest period. We did have a slight flare up of something that appeared bacterial but seemed to subside with 4 days of pimafix/melafix treatment in addition to the food based metro, focus, kana blend we had started them all on as a precaution. If I. A find the photos I’ll throw them on today’s story. Happy Fourth Everyone try to keep all your digits intact. ~D

The kitchen showroom tank is really starting to fill in at 1 year old. This visit we added a few homemade combo rocks and a banded coral shrimp. I want to add some flame cardinals to this one in the future.

Planning for another 12 day trip to Florida. This time we’ll be moving a planted 140 down and converting that to saltwater then building a new 125 to house the plants and fish we brought with us. EOW visits should commence shortly after.

Cryptocaryon outbreak in QT

I hate to even post this I would have much rather post about my MRC filter room update or Kylers reef tank update but alas here we are. I don’t know how many other shops have this level of discussion about illness but it needs to be talked about because it happens to everyone. I waited until we had a full grasp of the situation before writing this. Currently our QT system has Cryptocaryn irritans and they look to be in theront stage by the video I took of Frank’s slide and referencing literature like the infographic graciously posted with a wonderful blog by @marinedepot (credit where credit is due). Unfortunately, this comes with the territory. Fish get sick. We're experienced enough to have a microscope and the skill to use it to aid in diagnosing a problem. Also sadly those clients waiting on fish will have to wait a bit longer as we’re now holding everything. So far we’ve scraped half of the fish in the other holding system and are not seeing any of these parasites. We’re going to give it another 2 weeks of testing before we clear them to move along as they’ve already been onsite 3-4 weeks on the low end. We don’t like to treat fish with heavy medication for no reason. We believe battering them with medications upon their arrival damages their organs and tissue more then a wait and see approach. We pull scrapings and treat for the illness present, not broad spectrum for what could otherwise be a healthy specimen. You’re not sick every time you see the doctor and you wouldn’t take medication for an illness you don’t have.
