What made you choose a career in veterinary medicine? “I grew up on a farm in east Tennesee. When I was 4 years old, I told my great grandmother I was going to be an animal doctor one day. With a whole network of loving people to support me, I was able to fulfill that childhood dream. I also love to help people and enjoy the continuous learning that comes with a career in vet med. I know I’m where I’m supposed to be.”

What are you thankful for? “I have so many things to be thankful for. I am thankful for my husband, my two sons, my family, my Heartland team, and of course our two little dogs. I am so grateful for my sweet patients and for my clients who trust me to take care of their beloved family members.”

What made you choose a career in vet med?
“I have always had a passion for helping animals. When I was 3 I was determined I was going to be a veterinarian when I grew up. While in college, I worked on a horse farm and decided to take a slightly different path and become a licensed veterinary technician. From working in large animal emergency at UGA to small animal GP I have had an amazing experience learning about, working with, and caring for all kinds of animals.”

What are you thankful for? “I am beyond blessed and grateful for my family and their love and support. I’m thankful for an amazing work family. And I’m thankful for my fur babies Camo and Myra.”

Today we are thankful for Dr. Victoria!

Position: Associate Veterinarian
Length of time at Heartland: 2 years (but her time at Heartland has included: being a senior service student in high school, kennel assistant, vet tech, and completing multiple externships during vet school! We are very proud she made Heartland her home❤️)

What made you pursue a career in veterinary medicine? “I’ve always loved animals as a child and stated since the age of 5 that I wanted to be a vet. I was preparing for senior year of high school when I took the job of kennel assistant at Heartland to dip my toes into the world of vet med. My first day on the job I knew this field is where my heart belonged and I haven’t looked back.”

What are you thankful for? “I am grateful for my amazing family and fiancé who have all supported me on the journey and take care of me on long days while I care for my patients. I’m grateful for my Heartland team who have helped shape me into the doctor I am today. And I am grateful for my clients and patients!”

What made you choose a career in veterinary medicine? “I’ve always loved animals and dreamed of working with them as a child. I started my career in grooming before finding a position as a CSR. I worked at several animal hospitals before finding my home at Heartland. I’m currently in school to become a licensed veterinary technician and I’m excited to see where this new journey takes me in veterinary medicine.”

What made you pursue a career in veterinary medicine? “My childhood dog, Maggie, revealed my natural affinity and connection with animals, and my family always encouraged me to pursue this passion. Plus, being a human doctor would be super gross.”

“When Covid started I was half way through college seeking a degree in health management and looking for a way to transition into an office setting. The best decision I have ever made was switching from human health and pursuing vet med. I grew up in a home full of huskies; it was only a matter of time before I would find myself in vet med.”

Emily’s journey in veterinary medicine: “My experience working with animals exceeds 15 years. Before I started working at Heartland I was a barn manager and international groom for a high level show jumping stable where I worked with world class veterinarians and farriers and traveled all over North America. My favorite part of vetmed is phlebotomy, diagnostics, client education, and developing relationships with all of our patients.”

When asked, what made you pursue a career in veterinary medicine?, Emily said “I’ve always wanted to work with animals ever since I was little. I started my career in animal rescue and wanted to work with and help animals and people once they are in loving forever homes.”

What is Emily thankful for this year? “I am thankful for my pets (dog, cat, bearded dragon) and my family that has supported my animal loving spirit since I was young. Thank you for putting up with and loving all the strays I’ve brought home!”
