It’s the New Year! Start it off right by focusing on those resolutions.

Maybe you promised your dog you would walk them more but they are not great on leash…. They pull on the leash, drag you along, and/or lunge at other dogs/people. We know it can be ruff, let us help guide you and your pet to have a more enjoyable walking experience.

Let’s talk about walking dogs…
Why is it important? How does it impact both you and your dogs everyday life?

The number one reason people walk their dog is for exercise. Though that’s a great reason to walk your dog, there is much more that goes into it.
Walking your dog can provide mental stimulation by allowing them to experience the everyday life. It is also a bonding experience that mimics them going on a migration with their pack.
While a longer walk is better, even a short walk can set your dog up for a calmer day. It’s important to have a structured walk. For at least part of the walk your dog should be walking with you, for another part allow them to explore and use their nose.

Remember to walk your dog, it’ll benefit your pack in so many ways.

These dogs had a successful interaction of passing each other. It was set up by each handler creating a calm state of mind with their dogs where they would look to their owners for guidance if they were unsure. Since both dogs were in a calm, outgoing state of mind, we allowed them to sniff each other and interact a little. In this video I demonstrate letting Winston out of his crate. Many dogs associate doors opening with inmediately going outside and excitement. By putting a pause on this and making dogs wait and think before allowing them to go through thresholds, they are burning mental energy as well as exercising impulse control. Practicing this can make letting dogs outside less chaotic for the humans as well!
