Oh my goodness!!!
We are so excited to announce that we OFFICIALLY have some AMAZING new opportunities for some really incredible education through interaction here at the Idaho Reptile Zoo!!!
Just like the pictures show... we have opportunities to get hands on and go in and help in a training session with Gomer and Douglas, feed our baby alligators, interact with monitor lizards, go in and feed our parakeets and iguanas, get some one on one time with a giant constrictor, and one I think will be the biggest hit.. the creepy crawly experience with our invertebrates.

If interested, just let the front desk know when you check in, and they'll get you all set up.

Hope to see you soon!

Hey guys.. its that time of year again where life starts to kind of slow down around town. But life in the zoo is always up and active. So we thought we would make this go fund me for those who are not able to come out and say hi in person can still support their favorite animals.

As a reminder... we are a 501c3 NonProfit so if you would like a donation please let us know and we would be happy to provide you with a receipt.

As always... we appreciate everything this community has given us. And we love being involved in such an amazing area.

I know at first glance this looks like just a terrible picture... but if you look closer, you'll see something pretty cool.
Did you see it!?!

If not...it's ok... don't get "rattled" we'll tell you.

THERES A FANG IN THE P**P!!!!!

Rattlesnake will shed or replace their fangs every 6-10 weeks on average. They do this for a couple different reasons, it is most obviously to keep their fangs from dulling out or getting clogged. Believe it or not.... that actually happens!!!

So thanks Buzz, our Southern Pacific Rattlesnake, for this amazing example of just another reason Rattlesnakes are so fascinating.

We can't wait for this years CROCtober!!!!
So much so, we are starting the festivities early.
One of those festivities is "Gator Hour". Just like your favorite restaurant that offers "Happy Hour" with specials and extra fun stuff to do. We are no different!
Every weekday from 4-6pm, we are going to have one of amazing alligators out for interaction.
ALONG with double the turtle/tortoise feedings,
feeding our parakeets,
AND even meeting one of our giant pythons!!!

Stay tuned for more fun CROCtober activities coming soon!

Isn't it crazy? You would think a snake that is known to grow to 25 feet and over 200 pounds would prefer life on the ground, or even in water like the green anaconda.
But not reticulated python.
They are comfortable everywhere. Even up in the trees like Wanda is displaying here.
Believe it or not, that's 19 feet and 140 pounds of python resting up in her tree like she's laying in a hammock.
How AMAZING!!!

For everyone who has come in to see the last couple of days... we want to apologize again for all the mess when you first walk in. And also thank you for your patience.
We were building a new and improved enclosure for Sydney and the other parrots!!!!
Now, they have plenty of room to spread their wings, play games, and forage for food in a more natural environment. It even has a jumbo parrot bird bath!!!
Come by and check it out and let us know what you think!!!

We just have to take a moment and brag about one of our own real quick.
For those that dont know... this is Graham, he is our snake care specialist. ( he's our snake guy as most like to call him. )
But that's not all he is. He lives a double life and when he's not busting his back at the zoo to make sure his animals are cared for. He is very involved with his local FFA.
At the fair last week, this guy placed 1st in his class and 3rd overall in sheep showmanship and got reserve grand champion for the FFA large animal round robin!
And we can't express how proud of him we are.
If you see him around the zoo over the weekend, make sure to tell him good job. He'll be modest and say it's not a big deal, but it really is.

Recently, we had some ducks brought in as feeders, but we just couldn't do it. We knew they would be better off as pets somewhere because we just don't have the room for them to be cared for properly.
That's why we toom them out to the Ruth Melicar Bird Center. They do some amazing work with our local birds and wildlife.
If you'd like to know more and how to help them the same way you guys have always helped us.
Come by this Saturday, August 24th, from 3-4p to meet these amazing people and some of their incredible birds.

Sorry we havent been posting as much lately. Things have been crazy around here. But one of the biggest things ever has happened...

The Idaho Reptile Zoo has been gifted 3 adorable baby Galapagos Tortoises from the Galapagos Tortoise Alliance.

They are a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and saving this amazing species.

Some quick interesting facts for those who do not know why this is such a big deal...
- they are the largest species of tortoise
- of their original population study, their numbers have dwindled to 20%
- each subspecies has a distinctive shell to their island home
- WE HAVE THE ONLY THREE IN THE ENTIRE NORTHWEST!!!!

You gotta come see these babies! They are so stinking adorable.

Oh... and just a heads up... the markings on their back do not cause any harm. The facility we got them from mark the babies to track their progress. It should all wear off with time.
