HAPPY FRIDAY! We wanted to let you all know that we have another bird meet up coming up! Next Wednesday January 22nd from 7PM-9PM hosted by our friend Jared Korpus from the Boise Avian Group! It will be a potluck so please bring food or drinks! We also highly encourage that you bring your feathered friends as well, but if you don’t want to or don’t have birds you are still welcome to come!

PLEASE READ: all birds must either be clipped, recall trained, or have a carrier present in case a bird needs to be put away for a bit

Here is our before and after of our rescue/adoption bay! It was our New Years resolution to put money back into upgrading our rescue, making it look nicer, make work flow smoother, and overall just make the animals quality of life better for their short time that they are with us. Thank you everyone for your continued support and helping us get here. Stay tuned through 2025 as we have a lot more plans to continue to grow and change!

IMPORTANT! Painted shells are not good for hermit crabs! We gave them new shell options and the big one changed shells immediately but the small one has not yet. We will provide shells with them.

This is Azmo. He is a 4 year old corn snake that got surrendered to us a little over a month ago. He came in to us very skinny and dehydrated. I wish I had taken pictures back when we first got him but these pictures are from today, where he has already had 6 meals under his belt and gained quite a bit of weight. He is not ready for adoption yet as he has a lot of weight to gain still but we wanted to share his story to help educate others and help improve animal care.
When he came in to us we were told that he hadn’t eaten for over a year and was just not interested in food. Sometimes it is natural for snakes to go off of food for a week or so because of various reasons such as shedding, seasons changing, etc. but if your snake goes off of food for a long period of time it is always a good idea to check you temperature, make sure it is not too hot or too cold. Check your humidity to make sure it is the right percentage for the species you have. Also consider that it could be from stress if the enclosure isn’t filled with enough decor or if you have been handling it too much. Always make sure that your food size is appropriate and not too big or too small for your snake.
If you have tried all of these techniques and your snake is still not eating please take them to an exotic veterinarian to make sure there are no underlying health issues. If your snake goes off of food for this long and loses this much weight it is detrimental to their heath and can lead to loss of life.
We will continue to monitor Azmos health and continue to help him gain weight and hopefully in the long run find him the perfect loving family!

I apologize for starting the day off with bad news. This morning we came in and Loki had crossed the rainbow bridge overnight. We did the best we could to help him but we only had him for 3 days and he was too far gone. Yesterday he had eaten one cricket, some Pangea and he had had a urate so we had our hopes high but it had just been too much for his little body. The only thing giving us comfort is he is no longer in pain. Please hold your pets closely today and give them much love for us. Thank you

I want to introduce you all to Loki. We don’t normally do posts like this but I thought that this would be a good opportunity to educate and share. We got this rescue crested gecko dropped off earlier this week and he came with severe MBD (metabolic bone disease). From what it sounds like he was only being fed bugs with no calcium powder or vitamin supplement(and he was never given crested gecko diet). He is still only under a year old and should not be in this state, it is very easy to prevent with proper husbandry. Crested geckos should be given a high quality gecko diet (Repashy, Pangea, Lugarti, etc.) which have calcium and other vitamin supplements in them as well. Also when you feed your crestie bugs you should dust them with calcium powder. It is also highly recommended that you provide your crestie with a 2-5% UVB bulb.
We will do our best for Loki, we have set him up with UVB, and the proper diet and we will be taking him to see our vet as soon as possible, we will try to keep you all updated with his progress. Send your best wishes for this little man ❤️
