Happy Halloween from Boise Cat Clinic! Halloween can be fun for us, but it can be stressful and even dangerous for our feline friends. Here are a few important ways to keep your cat safe this spooky season:

🚪 Keep cats away from the door – With constant doorbell ringing and visitors in costumes, it’s easy for cats to become frightened or try to slip outside. Set them up in a quiet, secure room away from the activity to help them stay calm.

🍫 No Halloween treats for cats – Candy, chocolate, xylitol (found in sugar-free sweets), and raisins are toxic to cats. Keep all treats safely stored, and call a clinic or the ASPCA Poison Control Center immediately if your cat ingests something suspicious.

🐈‍⬛ Keep outdoor cats indoors – Increased activity and pranks around Halloween can make it unsafe for cats to roam. Keep them inside for a few days before and after the holiday for their protection.

✨ Be mindful of toxic decorations – Glow sticks, candles, fake cobwebs, and potpourri can be harmful if chewed or ingested. Keep these items out of reach.

💊 Ask us about stress-free options – If your cat becomes anxious during holidays or loud events, call us to discuss additional calming measures or medication options to help them stay relaxed and comfortable.

They spent the weekend celebrating feline medicine, connecting with fellow professionals, and engaging in an inspiring educational experience. From incredible speakers to shared learning and great company, it’s safe to say they enjoyed a fun and knowledge-filled weekend! 🐈🎉✨

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kathryn Sutherland to our team!

Dr. Sutherland's passion for veterinary medicine was sparked early on, despite the challenges of frequently relocating as a child in a military family. At just fourteen, she began working at a local vet clinic, which deeply influenced her career direction. She pursued her education with determination, earning both her Bachelor's degree in Microbiology and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Washington State University, completing the latter in 2022 as part of the Honors College's accelerated 7-year program.
Additionally, Dr. Sutherland is Fear Free Certified, reflecting her dedication to reducing stress and enhancing the welfare of animals.

Her professional focus includes preventative medicine, client education, and soft tissue surgery. After working in a mixed animal practice, her love for the unique personalities and independence of cats led her to specialize exclusively in feline medicine. This specialization reflects her commitment to enhancing veterinary care for cats, who are often less likely to receive preventive care compared to dogs.

Dr. Sutherland thrives in a feline-exclusive environment that perfectly aligns with her expertise and passions, allowing her to provide tailored care. Her diverse background, shaped by moves across the country and enriched by her proficiency in Spanish, has endowed her with a broad perspective and adaptability that enhance her practice. Beyond her professional life, Dr. Sutherland enjoys camping, cooking, reading, caring for her many houseplants, and spending time with her two beloved tuxedo cats, Franklin and Regina, who she considers the best cats in the world.

This is especially true for older kitties, but even us youngsters can experience dehydration or heat stroke when the mercury rises over 80 degrees. Here are few ...

Congratulations to our Veterinary Assistant Carson who has been accepted at Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Carson will continue working at the clinic until August when he starts vet school.

1. Work alongside veterinarians to understand what the role entails.

3. Become comfortable with the UNcomfortable - embrace it and learn from it!
