Simply Cats is Boise, Idaho's no-kill, cageless feline adoption center. Simply Cats got its start (with just six cats!) as Just Strays Animal Foundation, Inc., in a one room office in 1986. In 2006, the name of the organization was changed to Simply Cats Adoption Center to reflect its feline-only animal population. Meanwhile, plans were underway to

construct a brand new state-of the-art adoption center. Thanks to generous donors, the facility was constructed and donated in 2007 and has been our home ever since. Today, Simply Cats Adoption Center shelters over 100 cats and kittens and operates due to the hard work of a small staff and many volunteers. Simply Cats is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that relies on donations for funding.

Providing hiding spaces like Kitty Kasas is essential for helping new cats adjust to unfamiliar environments, reducing stress, and giving them a sense of control, key principles of our behavior modification program, Feline Right at Home. Ahoy, matey! While my name is Jack Sparrow, I’m not interested in sailing the high seas – I’m looking to navigate the calmer waters of home life! I’m a 9-month-old brown tabby with a shy and soulful side. New faces can make me a little nervous, but once you get to know me – I’ll give you gentle nuzzles and seek comfort in your presence.

I arrived at Simply Cats with my more adventurous brother, Indiana Jones. He’s brave and loves to explore. He helps me feel more confident, and together we’re a real treasure – ready to bring love, comfort and just a bit of adventure to your life!

Meet Tami, the black panther beauty with a heart full of potential. Just a little over a week ago, she arrived at our facility, unsure and overwhelmed by her new surroundings. In those first days, she hid in the corners, her wide eyes filled with uncertainty.

But in this short time, Tami has started to show her softer side. She now finds comfort in cozy spots, quietly observing the world around her. And when she feels safe, she’ll flop onto the floor for loving forehead scritches, revealing her sweet, roly-poly charm. Tami is searching for a calm, patient home where she can continue to grow and share her love. Could you be the one to help her shine?

With the incredible support of our community, we ended December with 86 adoptions, bringing our total for 2024 to an amazing 895 adoptions. As we reflect on all we have accomplished this year and on all the hardships, we are reminded of why we dedicate ourselves to helping cats in need. Each adoption means a second chance at a happy life, every surgery helps a cat heal, and every intake marks the beginning of a brighter future. It is your generosity, compassion, and commitment that make these transformations possible.

What’s your New Year’s resolution? Whatever your goal is for 2025, consider becoming a Simply Cats Rescue Partner and save lives all year long! Our monthly giving program allows you to choose the amount of your gift and provides consistent support the cats can rely on. Your gift will improve the lives of many cats throughout the year.

Here’s what your gift will provide:
- $10 provides nutritious meals for a rescue cat for an entire month
- $25 vaccinates and microchips a cat so they can be healthy and safe
- $50 neuters a male cat, ensuring they will not add to feline overpopulation

- $200 saves a litter of kittens providing food, supplies, and medical services.

I’m currently hunkered down, surveying my new environment. I’m shy by nature, so it will take me a little while to come around. It’s kind of hard for me to hide anyway, because I’m a big, handsome lug, and who wouldn’t want to hang out with me? I prefer a nice, quiet home where I can establish my own space and won’t have to deal with strangers.

I’ve decided this year is the year to put myself out there more—maybe even find someone who sees all the potential I have. Once I know you’re safe, I’ll come out for some love, purrs, and even a few biscuit-making sessions. With a little patience, I’m sure I can be the purrfect companion in a calm, cozy home.

Somebody dumped me off on a country road, which I thought was extremely rude, because I had to wander around asking strangers for handouts. Luckily, a group of cat lovers rescued me and found me a nice foster home before they brought me to Simply Cats.

I still like people, even though some of them haven’t been that nice to me. I am friendly, playful, curious and a little shy until I decide that you’re OK. I enjoy people-time, but I also like me time, especially when I’m curling up in a cubby on a cat tree.

Paris and Pepe are our longest-staying residents. They arrived as tiny kittens and have grown before our eyes into two beautiful boys. Over time, they’ve received a few applications, but in a sea of outgoing, energetic kittens, their shyness has made it easy for them to be overlooked.

Now that kitten season is over, it’s their turn to shine. Paris is a purr machine who adores affection and is the chillest cat you’ll ever meet. Pepe, on the other hand, is more reserved—his cautious nature and shyness are why they’ve been with us for so long. Pepe truly wants to trust and loves pets, but he needs time to warm up.

Pepe is a hidden gem, and we believe he’ll blossom even more once he’s in a home. As you can see, Churu lickables are their favorite treat—and Pepe’s ultimate weakness! It’s also a fantastic tool for building trust with him.

Shy cats like Paris and Pepe remind us that the best connections are built slowly, with care and understanding. In return, they give the greatest gift of all: their trust. These boys are looking for a quiet, patient home with someone who knows that all good things come to those who wait.

Life hasn’t always been easy for me. I used to roam the streets, but even then, I had a soft spot for people. I’d rub against legs, soak up all the pets and scratches I could get, and show my affectionate side to anyone willing to give me a moment. A kind soul recognized that I deserved a better life and brought me here to Simply Cats.

Now I’m safe, but everything feels so new and different -- it’s a lot to adjust to. Here at the shelter, I’ve been pretty shy as I try to make sense of my new surroundings. Deep down, I know there’s kindness in the world, and I’m holding out hope for someone who will see the real me. I dream of a calm and patient home where I can decompress and let my true personality shine. With time and love, I’ll show you just how much affection I have to give.

Scruffy arrived as a stray in heartbreaking condition earlier in the fall. He suffered from severe dental disease, with decaying and broken teeth, and gingivitis that left his gums red, swollen, and infected—making it painful and difficult for him to eat. To relieve his pain, our medical team performed a full mouth extraction, removing his remaining teeth and retained roots.

During surgery, they discovered an abscess caused by a foxtail embedded in his gums. The cost of his dental surgery alone was approximately $1,155. For comparison, the average cost of care for one cat is $183. Scruffy's dental surgery greatly improved his quality of life. Despite his hardships, Scruffy remained sweet and gentle, with a heart full of love. He would follow you around, nuzzling for affection, and charm everyone with his squeaky little meows.

Today, Scruffy’s life is unrecognizable from what it once was. Thanks to a kind-hearted good Samaritan who stepped up to help, he was given a second chance. Scruffy has since been adopted into a loving home, where he now goes by Atticus Scruffles. His adopter shared: “He’s a distinguished gentleman. He’s a little love bug who always has to be touching you for constant cuddles.”

We couldn’t be happier for Scruffles, who no longer has to worry about finding his next meal, fending off predators, or suffering from the fleas that once left his body covered in scabs. Stories like his are made possible by supporters like you.

I may be named Eleven, but I’m a ten out of ten in cuteness! You’ll be enchanted by my soft white fur and adorable pink ears. And my grey forehead markings? Think of them as my tiny crown! I love gentle head rubs and pets, and once I trust you, I’ll soak up all the love you have to give. When I’m not busy being adorable, you’ll find me perched in a cat tree or lounging on a sunny window seat like the princess I am. I’ve got a playful streak too, so don’t be surprised if I pounce into action when the mood strikes.

Can you help us? We’re in need of more hidey holes to help our shy and new cats feel safe as they adjust to all the changes in their lives. We’re specifically requesting donations of Kitty Kasas—they’re easier to clean, simple to break down for storage, and help reduce the amount of laundry our hardworking volunteers have to manage each day.
