Canine infectious respiratory Illness update

- According to the State Vet, no serious cases of the mystery respiratory disease have been reported in ID. We have not seen any life threatening cases here in the clinic. There has been more kennel cough this summer and fall and are taking a more aggressive approach to treating these symptoms.

What we know so far;
Transmission - suspected transmission through respiratory aerosols.
Symptoms - cough, lethargy, lack of appetite.
Prevalence - outbreaks across the USA. NBVC has not seen an increase in respiratory disease this month, however, there was more upper respiratory disease, in general, this summer.
Prevention - limiting boarding, dog parks, and grooming if possible. Vaccination for Canine Influenza and Bordetella is recommended. and then boostering that in 2-4 weeks.

We are taking extra precautions between each visit and continue regulate minimal interactions in the lobby as best as possible.

Update on the mysterious canine respiratory virus

NBV Team is taking the precautions in making sure our facility, clients and canines are safe and will continue to update you all, if and when we know more information.

Although, researchers are not yet sure what causes the illness, we are suggesting that you make sure your dog has been fully vaccinated - especially for kennel cough (Bordetella) and canine flu.
Avoid dog parks, pet stores and grooming facilities with your canine companion, if possible and keep your pet at home if they show any upper respiratory illness.

While the existing vaccines may not specifically target the unknown infection, maintaining overall health through routine vaccinations helps support a dog’s immune system.

Today is, Technician Jessicas recognition day!

Jess started working as a technician at North Boise Vet just under 3 years ago. She has had a passion for animals and their well-being since she was little. She always knew she wanted to work with animals and started her college journey in a pre-veterinary program before moving to Idaho and continuing her education. She will always be passionate about learning, especially since she is still considered a baby in the field lol. The emotional well-being of animals has always been important to her, so she is passionate about using fear-free techniques and advocating for their comfort and wellbeing when they can’t. She enjoys analyzing animal behavior, learning about veterinary pathology, and having a variety of responsibilities, including assisting in pre-surgical preparation and performing dental cleanings. Outside of work she likes exploring Boise with her boyfriend, Angel and her doggO, Noah. Loves cooking, making homemade coffee, and going to the gym.

Thank you Jess for all you have done in helping make animals live a happier and healthier life! Thank you for all you hard earned tech work!

Happy Tuesday during Vet tech week!
Kim Cole has been a tech for 16 years.
She has always had a passion for animals. She always try to be an advocate and voice for animals believes they should be given the same care and respect as people are. This is why she loves assisting in emergency and surgical care. She enjoys providing the best care and comfort to her clients and their pets.
And, lastly, she has a special place in her heart for senior pets and senior clients and just loves serving them.
Her hobbies are Hyrox and DEKAFIT, Spartan obstacle racing, running in the foothills w my dog's. She is what you call a force to be wrecked with/hybrid athlete! Google her name and you can see how awesome she truly is!

Kim has almost been at NBV for 2 years and we are so lucky to have her on our team!

Mariah has been a Technician for 8 years. She has been at NBV from the beginning and has help make it what it is today!

This Thursday is dedicated to our very own Sarah!
Sarah has been working at North Boise for 4 years and we have seen her grown into such an amazing person.
She is always up and ready to help where ever is needed. Greets everyone (including pet parents) with the biggest smile. She is a huge part of the team, and we are all extremely excited for the next chapter in her life!
She currently stations in Florida, where she is going to school to become a Veterinarian! She has finished her first year and will graduate in 3 years and be Dr. Sarah Donnelly! We wanted to dedicate today and the rest of this week to her because we are sadden to announce that her last official day with North Boise is Friday and we are all going to miss her dearly!
Thank you for all your hard work you have dedicated toward this clinic. We wish you all the best in your next journey and want you to remember how important you have been to this team.
Congratulations on this closed chapter and we can’t wait to see you again!
