Meet Zeus, a 4-year-old German shepherd/border collie mix. He's a sweet and active fella who LOVES to play! He's a 10/10 fetcher and brings it right back to you every time. Zeus is house and crate trained, and he knows all sorts of tricks like: sit, stay, shake, high five, catch, and come. His most fun and unique trick? He will stand between your legs and walk with you!

Zeus can be a little nervous (of men especially) at first, but a ball will make you his best friend. He loves to be the center of attention, so he will need to be the only pet in the home.

He is sure to make for a very loyal canine companion, and he can't wait to find his new best friends. Come meet this fun fella today: https://idahohumanesociety.org/adopt/pets-details/?aid=57461713&cid=41&tid=Dog

A huge thank you to the Sirius Fun 4H Club for this incredible donation to our Meals on Wheels program! In this club, kids learn how to care for their dogs and be responsible pet owners. Since they focus on all things canine, they usually choose a dog-related community service project each Christmas—and this year, they picked our Meals on Wheels program!

They were excited to support a cause that helps both pets and their owners, ensuring that elderly individuals can continue to feed and care for their beloved companions. We’re so grateful for their generosity and the impact they’ve made on both two- and four-legged friends!

Springtime means kitten season is here, and we need compassionate foster parents to help! Did you know you get to choose the pets you foster? One of the easiest and most rewarding ways to foster is by welcoming a mama cat and her babies into your home for a short time.

Here are five great reasons to sign up today and help us save lives: https://bit.ly/FosterIHS

1. EASY PEASY FOSTER: Orphaned kittens require a lot of time and care on the foster parent's part. Mother cats will take care of the kitten's needs almost exclusively for the first 2-4 weeks. The foster parent just needs to care for momma cat, which leaves time to cuddle adorable kittens.

2. NO LATE NIGHT FEEDINGS: Young orphaned kittens without mom require feedings every 2-4 hours throughout the day and night. This feeding schedule can last several weeks, depending on the age of the kittens. Kittens with their mothers don't require loss of sleep since mom will take care of all the feedings.

3. MORE CUTENESS, LESS MESSINESS: Mother cats take care of regular grooming and cleanup of their babies... she will keep the kittens looking clean and spiffy.

4. COMPLIMENTARY KITTEN SITTER: Do you work full time? Are you away from home for long periods? Not a problem with momma cat in charge... she will take care of the kittens while you are away. Mom needs to get occasional checking during the day, unlike orphaned kittens that need to be checked every 2-6 hours, depending on the age.

5. BEST CHANCE OF SURVIVAL: Mother cats know best. They are naturally able to take care of their kitten's needs until they are old enough to survive independently. Orphaned kittens require a lot more time and resources for their care as they are likely to have a suppressed immune system and are more susceptible to diseases. Kittens stand the best chance of surviving if they can stay with their mothers.

Meet Baja and Leo! These lively 11-year-olds love walks and playtime—you’d never guess their age! They were surrendered together, so they get along with each other great, but don’t do well with new dogs or cats. Therefore, they can be adopted together or need a home without other pets if they are adopted separately.

Adopt one or both and give them the retirement they deserve!

Wow! What a great month of February, with all our wonderful supporters dropping recycling items off at Pacific Steel and Recycling. We really mean it when it all adds up—most of the line items were small donations, but when added together, they totaled 19 pages of deposits, accounting for $745.44 last month! The last 90 days brought in $2,139.01!

If you're not saving your recycling cans or other recycling items, know that you, too, can make a difference for the environment and pets in need. Learn more about what can be recycled and how to donate today: https://idahohumanesociety.org/aluminum-can-recycling

Rabbits are adorable, but did you know they have an extremely high reproductive rate? A single female can have two to three litters per year, with 4 to 14 kits per litter. A single breeding pair and their offspring could result in over 4 million rabbits in just four years.

Unaltered rabbits released into the wild contribute to overpopulation, creating challenges for local ecosystems and increasing the number of abandoned rabbits needing rescue. Here at the Idaho Humane Society, all of our rabbits are spayed and neutered to prevent pet overpopulation—even in the case of an accidental escape.

If you have a pet rabbit or plan to adopt, please get them altered to help prevent overpopulation and protect the environment. Rabbits are prolific burrowers, and when populations grow unchecked, they can cause significant damage to landscapes, gardens, and native habitats.

Camps are a terrific way for children to gain experience with animals, learn how to be safe and respectful around them, and have fun while learning. Each session will explore animal care and behavior, IHS goals and mission, humane awareness, compassion, and service. Camp curriculum changes each session because it is altered based on the interests of the children and the changing shelter residents, so repeat campers are welcome! https://idahohumanesociety.org/camps/

Lillie, a 6th-grade student at St Ignatius Catholic School, collected cans for an entire year, a total of 15 pounds! She took the cans to Pacific Steel for recycling and used those funds, in addition to the fundraising she had done earlier, to purchase items off the greatest needs list for the animals at the Idaho Humane Society. She also volunteered at IHS to learn more about how kids her age can directly, and indirectly, help animals in need.

We appreciate your generous heart for helping our homeless animals, Lillie!

If you know a student who needs volunteer hours for school, class, church or just wants to help animals, encourage them to collect cans and/or attend a Student Service Session: https://idahohumanesociety.org/programs/humane-education/service-hours-for-students/

Last week, we rescued 10 Bluetick Coonhounds from a single home where their owner was overwhelmed. Thanks to our amazing community, five of these beautiful hounds have already found loving homes! We still have three ready for adoption right now, and they’re as charming as they are stunning. These smaller-sized hounds are looking for families who will appreciate their sweet nature and adventurous spirit. Tag your fellow hound lovers and help us find them the perfect forever homes!

We're open Tuesday thru Saturday, 11am to 7pm, and Sunday 11am to 5pm.

Parker is a very happy-go-lucky, outgoing dog who loves food and pets. He has a condition called megaesophagus, which makes it hard for him to keep food down and gain weight. That being said, Parker has been adapting well to his feeding in the Bailey chair and will sit patiently as he is slowly fed his meatballs of food. Here's what his foster home has to say about him:

Parker is a snuggle bug who is thrilled with life! He loves people, dogs, and kids! Parker will play with balls, toys, and his fave stuffed animals all by himself if there is no one else to play with. Parker is crate-trained, but he can get anxious if he has to potty. He does best with a pet door, but will go to a door to be let out, and is very well house-trained. One of his best features is he rarely barks! Parker walks nicely on his leash and knows several commands. But if he thinks no one is looking, he may take a nibble off the table now and then. He loves to sleep at night with his people nearby. He has been working on not jumping when excited, but interestingly, Parker seems to know to be gentle with smaller children. Because Mr. Parker needs some special helps with eating because of his megaesophagus (ME), he needs a little extra TLC. Although the ME is mild, it does cause regurgitation at times. He politely uses his Bailey chair at meals so he sits up nice and straight. He also has spasms periodically, called paroxysmal dyskinesia, which resolves on its own within minutes, and then he's back to his goofy self. Come meet this sweet, lovable boy! He has so much love to share.

Look at these ears!

✅ Good with dogs 25 lbs+
✅ Potty trained
✅ Crate trained
✅ Loves toys

Meet Sawyer! She came to us as an owner surrender due to her not getting along with the small dog in the home. While Sawyer generally does well with dogs, she does not do well with small dogs so, if there is any dog in her new home they will need to be 25lbs or bigger and she will require to meet them before going home. Sawyer is described as a lover and a very good listener; she can't wait to show this to her new family. She absolutely loves toys, is potty-trained, and does very well in a crate. If you think you could give this cuddly and sweet girl the home she is looking for then, come and meet her today! https://idahohumanesociety.org/adopt/pets-details/?aid=57689605&cid=41&tid=Dog

Today is Employee Appreciation Day, and we have the best of the very best! From our front desk and admin employees, to our matchmakers and Animal Care Assistants, to our veterinarians and veterinary techs, and Animal Care and Control officers and staff, behavior teams and more, they are all simply amazing!
Our staff works tirelessly each day to handle incoming animals, adoptions, medical care, and routine feeding, watering, cleaning, enrichment, and exercising for all of our furry friends while they stay with us.

We could not provide the exceptional care or the ability to save lives through our transfer program across Idaho and beyond, to give these deserving pets a second chance at finding a home if it wasn’t for our incredibly loving and dedicated staff.

A special thanks to every one of you today and always!
