Older workers who qualify can be assigned to do their PAID training up to 20 hours a week at Polk County Humane Society.

The training assignment includes general housekeeping and/or computer work at Polk County Humane Society in Bolivar, MO.

Meet our Dog of the Week: Cadbury! 🐰💕

Cadbury is a goofy, playful, and loving boy. He would make a great addition to any family. Cadbury gets along great with other dogs, cats, and kiddos. He does great in his kennel overnight and seems to be potty-trained.

Meet Cheerio! He is the 29th dog from the recent animal abuse case in Polk County, MO. We’d like to express our gratitude to the Humane Society of Missouri and the Polk County Sheriff for saving the rest of the dogs there.

PCHS was able to get Cheerio from the property owner in mid September. We couldn’t see everything but we saw enough to know it was bad. We immediately called the case in to the sheriff’s department and reported it to the Humane Society of Missouri’s Animal Cruelty Hotline.

We are grateful for their quick response, persistence and cooperation to save the rest.

The Humane Society of Missouri and Polk County Humane Society are not affiliated. We are separate non-profits. In cases like this one, which are too large for PCHS to handle on our own, we rely on HSMO and our local law enforcement and judicial system. Thank you all for coming to the rescue.

Cheerio was starving and had bad sores on his butt but is on the mend and looking a lot better now. Hoping the same recovery for the rest of the rescued dogs from this horrible situation.

Sad fact. One of the dogs on the property was tied to the post of a billboard along Highway 13. It couldn’t be seen from the Highway but so, so sad that so many people passed by without knowing what horrible abuse was happening right there so close by. 😞

UPDATE - Headed home. Owner found and going to get him this morning! FOUND this handsome guy was found on 430th Road just about a mile north of the Humane Society west of Bolivar, MO. Found around Friday 11/8/24. Call +1 (417) 777-1381 to claim.

LOST Chief went missing on 10/14/24. He lived east of Hwy 13 near the Ebenezer Fire Department. North of Springfield, MO. He is microchipped. Please contact the owner at (417) 771-0552 if you’ve seen him.

$25 SPAY & NEUTER CLINIC FOR CATS!

Thanks to the Summerlee Foundation, we were awarded a grant to help spay/neuter 200 community cats for just $25!We are making the first trip to the Sedalia Spay & Neuter Clinic on THURSDAY, December 12th! We are offering the service to the public. We will be making around 8 trips to the clinic throughout the next few months.

Feline Spay/Neuter Cost: $25
Rabies Vaccination: $15
FVRCP Vaccination: $20
Eat Tipping (Feral Cats): $0

All payments must be made prior in order to hold your spot! Drop off time is at 7am and pick up time is at 6pm, at Polk County Humane Society.

All cats must be in carriers. If you need to borrow one prior to the date, you can come to the shelter to get one. If the cat is feral, we have traps available for a $50 refundable deposit.
