10 weeks ago, I was told on a FB group that I was one of those Off The Grid Riders who put others in danger. - That others try to avoid people like me on the trails. ..... why was this said you ask?.... Because I ride with my dog on the trail! No lie. That was it!

I was in shock,... but began laughing to myself hysterically! 12 of the people I ride with, decided to officially have an unofficial club ... "Off the grid riders". We ordered these hoodies and I couldn't be more pleased.

I spoke with my supplier, and they are will to do a drop shipping straight to your home!!! If anyone wants a Hoodie, they are $39. They will be mailed straight to your home!

Everyone knows about Chance, the sweet older gelding that I got that needs some TLC.

I had a lady step in privately day one, and ask what she could do to help, and graciously helped in his road to recovery. Friends have helped, offered advice, and items.

I had a wife of a wounded veteran contact me and her husband wants to start visiting with him and spending time with him. She asked what kind of feed he eats, and the next thing I know - she drops a bag off at the barn. ❤️ My heart is so full!

My neighbor at Lab Haven Farms offered a quite area for Chance to be, with a run in stall and paddock. Lab Haven Farms

This horse is bringing so much happiness to people and it warms my heart!

I've often had people ask if they can volunteer. I really don't need any volunteers at the barn, and honestly, I'm just not set up for that.

I know a lot of people are struggling right now. Financially, mentally and physically. The one thing I can agree on is HORSES MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY.

Just being around horses make people happy! I am wanting to offer people the happiness of being around and helping a horse. It is therapeutic!

This is a good opportunity for families with disabilities to safely be around a horse, in a controlled environment. Also, it is a good opportunity for homechoolers.

I am wanting to do this for 3 months. January until March 31st.

There will be a training seminar for all parents who are interested. I do ask that everyone be consistent and show up at your agreed upon time, weekly.

If your family is interested in feeding, Grooming, reading books, and spending time with Chance, in a quiet, low key, location, please inquire within.

All feed, Grooming tools, etc, will be provided.

If you commit to this, I ask that you fulfill your 3 month obligation.

I've never done anything like this before, and I am merely trying to share the joy of horses with all who would like to spend time with them.

Someone can have 10 online degrees in the equine industry, write articles on horses, and post pretty horse selfies.

That DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE A RIDER. It means, they are a horse owner, or just like horses - That's all!

Yall would be surprised how many of these horse owners out here, distributing free information to the horse world are not even riders. Now, let me clarify ... I don't care if someone rides or not. Just don't portray yourself to be something you are not. And certainly don't offer up advice on riding as if you have the experience. A few rides on a friend's horse does not earn you the title of equestrian.

As for me,... if the temperature is just right, the sun is shining, ground is perfectly even,... I may throw my leg over a horse for a stroll. 🤣🤣🤣🤔🙄

I just don't know quite enough to be writing articles, and don't have enough time to stay on YouTube and Google all day to get educated.

Based SOLELY on what is posted on social media, what would you look for when you are finding people to ride with or train you? What would be Important?

Rant. Pure Rant.

It's CHRISTMAS TIME and people are looking for Christmas Ponies!! It needs to be said!

Everyone has to start somewhere in horses. I get that. Let me tell you where you DO NOT start..

An inexperienced rider has absolutely NO business with an inexperienced horse. (Or unsupervised with an experienced horse.) An inexperienced rider can ruin an experienced horse!

Do you know how many times I've heard,... I want a baby horse so we can grow together. If you do not know what the heck you are doing, how the heck are you going to teach your horse? You can watch all the YouTube videos in the world, but trust me .... just no!

There is a difference between inexperienced and ignorant. Choose inexperience, please.

Do what is best for your horse.

Thirty days of training on a horse is nothing for an inexperienced rider. You hear me??? Nothing!!!! Young horses need consistency, and someone who knows what the heck they are doing. You can ruin a horse in one ride. One ride!!!! And you will ruin it, trust me.

A youth rider who is just getting in to horses needs lessons and ride time before they even consider getting one of their own. I've seen it too many times. Girl pays $50 to trail ride on a nose to tail, dead broke, 30 year old horse on vacation and wants a horse. Daddy gets girl gets a 4 year old pretty, "sweet" horse. Girl has no idea what she is doing and gets hurts. The novelty wears off. The horse becomes a dangerous 1200 pound dog with no training. The horse is deemed "crazy" by girls daddy who knows nothing. Horse ends up in Slaughter pipeline.

When you see someone elses kid riding a horse and it looks easy. It does NOT mean the horse is kid friendly. It means that kid knows what they are doing, and you dear, don't.

I still, to this day, tell people I am a beginner. ... and I am! I'm beginning to see how ignorant a lot of people are about horses! I'm beginning to realize that our youth have more horse sense than most adults. I'm beginning to sit back and listen to idiots talk about horses and simply say, "oh. Okay." All I know is, I'm NOT a trainer, I try to stay on... but I have enough sense and experience to know that no way do new riders need new horses!

End of rant .... carry on and go buy that c**t to raise and learn together.

12/03/2023

Jordan was 6 years old the first time I met her. During Covid, I opened up my barn for a place parents could bring their kids while they worked. It was open, it was outdoors, and we could offer an environment to keep children healthy. She was the youngest of the barb, and became our baby. She was shy, timid and very quiet. She never wanted attention. Often, while the other kids were doing things, you would find my Piper, with Jordan in tow, brushing or feeding animals. Then, you would look, and Piper would have Jordan on her horse with her riding her around.

Summer time came, and my camps were starting. Jordan was too young to do the traditional summer camps. Her parents scrambled to find her child care. Piper quickly volunteered herself to watch Jordan weekly. Piper and Jordan stayed at the house, and this was the first time that I saw MY baby, being truly responsible. Every day, Piper had a different activity planned for Jordan. It was adorable.

Jordan got old enough to attend camps, and Piper started working them. Jordan, was still "her baby". Piper still babies Jordan, and often on rides,.... Jordan wanted to ride on the horse with Piper. She trusted Piper!

A few years went by and Jordan told her parents ... "I want to be a barrel racer." This timid, shy, little princess .... how would she ever overcome her fears and actually be aggressive enough in her sweet little state, to man handle an animal?

I called her parents one day and just said... "I have found Jordan a horse, I need X amount of dollars, today." Guess what? - they delivered, THAT very day! It was to be her birthday present for her 10th birthday!

When Piper found out I was going to get a horse for Jordan,... she said..."Wait until I get out of school. I'm going with you. This is for Jordan, I need to test it out."

She wanted to so bad to zoom around those barrels. Instead, I made her trail ride. We rode. We rode. And She rode. She rode with me on the 4 wheeler, she ride with me ponying another horse. I threw every obstacle I could think of at her. I am a firm believer that trail riding makes strong riders! It outs them in real life situations, and makes them use their brain! They get to know their horse better thru trail riding! More trust is gained. They need to know you will keep them safe. Squirrels will dart out, bunnies, deer, birds, trees will fall, there will be mud or even streams to go thru. Jordan did it all! ...and then, she started to trot her horse!

Now let me say this ... I am NOT a barrel Racer. I could careless about chasing cans, and I always holler "You look so pretty." LOL... But, I know enough to start a child. And what Jordan did, I wasn't prepared for! After months of riding her horse, Ace, she surprised me and everyone else in that practice pen! She was ready for a Fun Show!

She went, we took Ace, and she won many ribbons! I asked her if she wanted ear plugs to drown out the audience, she said... "nope." I asked her if she was nervous...she just smiled. I said... get excited baby, if your nervous, pretend it's excitement! Her confidence was like night and day. She had her seat, she had control, AND she looked pretty! She was riding that horse, that horse was not riding her, and that's all I wanted! The speed would come later, and when Jordan mastered her seat... the speed came!

Jordan also rode in her 1st parade, where she and Ace did fantastic!

I'm so proud of Jordan and I'm so happy that her parents chose little ol me ... a trail rider, to start off their daughter in the wonderful world of horses!

12/03/2023

I have never claimed to be an instructor. However, I always say that I'm just a "rider" - a trail rider. I can't do a 2 point, and would look like an idiot in a show ring. However, I have fun! A few years back, I did fly to Ohio to take, a successfully obtained and became a Certified Trail Guide with the CHA. (Certified Horsemanship Association) This was the only formal teaching I have ever had.

It is funny and quite amusing to me to hear some people talk of all their training and experience.... and many who boast their accomplishments simply can't ride thru a mud hole. But good for them,.... horses bring enjoyment in Many different ways. I'm just a trail rider, and I love it.

I've had many many Many people reach out to me over the years and ask me to give them, or their child lessons. I have always hesitated because, I am not a teacher - I'm a rider. I absolutely despise the word "trainer". I'm no where close to being a horse trainer, or people trainer... I'm just a rider.

I do have a select few children that I've helped over the years. It is not from advertising, it's after an evaluation process, and talking to the parent's, explaining how I do things are NOT traditional, and how I ride with them. If I think that these kids are up to my craziness, and the parents are dedicated, I will help them. I'm going to talk to them like they are my own, I'm going to fuss at them like they are my own, but I'm going to love them and fight for them like they're my own too!

One of the many examples that I can share is Jadi. I don't like working with kids under 8. Jadis mom reached out to me. I explained that I probably wasn't the best fit for her child. (I can laugh about this now) We decided to give it a try. All I can say is... Jadi is definitely one of "mine" and that baby and his parents trust me! I helped him get his own pony, his mom took courses from me to LEARN how to saddle, and care for his horse.

She has allowed me and trusted me to take him camping and riding in SC, trusted me with putting him in game shows, and most importantly listened to me when I explain why I do things a certain way.

I called them last week and asked if Jadi wanted to be in his first parade on his mini, John Deere. Of course he did. They showed up, and trusted me! This little cowboy knew Miss Alecia was going to take care of him, and intently followed every instruction I gave him.

I guess the moral of this novel is... not everyone needs an instructor. Some kids need a rider, someone who can make things FUN, some one who can give them real experiences outside of the gates, some one who shows up with a dog on the back of the horse, and says.... "Let's do some cowboy stuff buddy!"

Recently, it has come to my attention that a local student was told she could not wear her Half Hell's Horses Tee Shirt to school because there is a bad word on it.

Let us all please educate those that are not familiar with Half Hell's Horses.

Where did we get the name?

We are located in none other but ... Half Hell, NC (An unincorporated Township of Bolivia, NC approximately 2 miles. Half Hell swamp runs through.)

Is Half Hell, NC on the map?

Yes, infact... the public school bus stops and has routes in Half Hell, NC.

What does Wikipedia say?

It gives the history of Half Hell, and even mentions Half Hell's Horses.

Please help spread this post so when others see a Half Hell's Horses tee shirt being worn by a child, they will be aware of thr name.

Also, these children are my little Half Hellians who do cowboy 💩, and they're going to wear their shirts!

For the last few years I have attended the American Heart Association Beach Ride each November on Myrtle Beach. This ride has probably 1000 riders and we camp and ride horses. All of the proceeds go to the AHA. Annually, over 500k is raised for the AHA. Years back, I joined a team "The Slow Pokes". Mr Jeff Connell and Breezy Trull quickly became camp fathers and friends to my crew. This year is going to be difficult because Breezy can only be there in spirit. He went home to the Lord a few months ago. I told Mr. Jeff I probably wanlsbt going to make it this year, and his response was .... "You have to go. It is going to be hard enough without Breezy."

Historically, each year participants do a fundraiser to raise money. This year, I'm just busy and haven't had a chance to put together a fundraiser.

If anyone would like to donate any money for my fundraiser, you can do it here, or, you can give me a check made directly to the AHA. I am hoping to be able to give the AHA atleast $500.

Do you know how many times I have heard ... "ponies are crazy!"

They're mean, they will bite, they will hurt your child.

I have always said that I am not a "trainer" - I'm just a rider, and not even a very good one. However, I can teach a child to love and respect horses in an unconventional FUN atmosphere, while keeping them safe.

Check out Jadi on his new Pony, John Deere, ...and ponying 4 year old Daisy!

Melt my heart with those crazy ponies, being all unsafe with no stirrups and a stick. 🤣❤️

What a super fun week at Advanced Overnight Horse Camp. I love these gals!

These girls are SORE and tired!

I can not stress enough how important it is to let your child have FUN on their horse! Don't let them get burnt out from competitions, and stressed out to do everything just right! Let them and their horse enjoy each other and get to know each other!

The best youth riders I've seen are those who trail ride, have fun and know their horse! They can jump in the arena and take care of business when need be, but also know real life horse "stuff".

Go ride yall!
