9/10/24 Vel Scotty Boy going 1:53.1, closing effort

Vel Scotty Boy put in a new personal best time of 1:53.1 for the mile. That beats his previous lifetime mark of 1:53.3 which he tied two weeks ago. Although he didn’t win, he was a closing third and lost by a length at 14-1 in a tough race.

This is certainly the closest that Golden Run has come to breaking her maiden so far… a closing effort after dueling early for the lead was the most impressive part.

Scotty Boy Wins! He finally got it done as the favorite in the light rain in gate to wire fashion after a spattering of thirds and seconds over the last few months… that was Scotty’s 6th win for JMA Stables in less than a year.

Well, another close up third place finish for Vel Scotty Boy last night. He finished in the second fastest time since I’ve had had him of 1:54 flat after being second the whole race. His lifetime mark was last October at 1:53.3. Plainridge is getting faster each week. Normally that time should win this class by lengths but not lately. Some equipment changes, adding an inside headpole and looking clean, but a little tired the morning after… that makes 9 of 11 in the money finishes at Plainridge this meet but only one victory so far.
