Another day on the hill in the books and what a great time we had! This grandfather, father, son trip wouldn’t have been complete without today’s adventure and on Fathers Day to boot! Thanks for joining us from Louisiana and for letting me take you guys on your first ever horseback ride! Hopefully you’ll come back for more! Also we checked in on our owlets today and got to meet the mother. We’re fairly certain they are “Long Eared Owls”. Will be fun to watch them grow up over the summer.

Cool trip to Monument Ridge Firetower yesterday. Some more repeat offenders, Matthew having been a client of mine since he was 9 years old, it’s funny to think I’ve basically watched him grow up over the years. We saw so many flowers today and Matt also brought his drone up and got a cool photo of us on top of the ridge next to the tower. Love it up there!

What a SPECTACULAR day we had on the hill today with Laura and Layton from Texas. The flowers are really popping right now and we even found an owls nest with 5 maybe 6 owlets in it! Layton was a trooper at 7 years old and all day in the saddle with (almost) no complaints! He was also astonishingly knowledgeable about all things WW1 , WW2, and the Vietnam war. Super smart kid. It was a joy to spend the day sharing my back yard with you guys!

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Jonel and Royce from Texas with their whole family! We had a great day and I was so proud of how well the horses handled riding in a big group. This is our whole herd of guest worthy horses (plus one we borrowed from Meeks Outfitters! Thanks guys for letting us borrow your little roan horse!

Thanks to Greg and Cara from Kansas for a wonderful couple of days. We put some miles in and saw some amazing country. They liked their time the first day so much that they came back for a second day of riding! Yee Haw! We saw lots of wildlife and really enjoyed getting to know each other. Hope to see you guys next year for a few nights pack trip!

What a day we had on the hill today! We saw baby everything! Two baby antelopes and a baby elk as well as a family of freshly hatched killdeer. Thanks to Lisa and Scott McCurdy for being diehard customers (perhaps my highest repeat offenders!) and for always bringing friends and family! It’s customers like you guys that make being in this business such a pleasure!

Introducing the Amazing Horses of Sleeping Indian Outfitters! Our horses make our living for us and their task is not an easy one. I like to say they’re like kids who have a different teacher every day except in most cases the teacher has no idea what they’re doing. These horses tolerate so much and shine a light on a relationship, that of horse and human, that’s even more bright than normal. It’s amazing that these beautifully regal, astoundingly powerful beings allow us to experience the joy that comes with knowing and working with them every single day. So to that, I’d like to introduce each of our special critters to you guys.

Meet John Henry, the big flashy black and white guy that always catches everyone’s eye. He’s a soft big man who is literally sometimes frightened by his own farts but he is so sweet and lovable. He wants so badly to do everything just the way you want it done. He has taken care of so many people on the trail over the years and continues to do so every day. We love you John John! 💕

Meet “Lou Lou” our newest herd member who joined our crew last summer. Lou Lou is a spicy gal with a lot of sass. She is missing an eye but that doesn’t slow her down one bit. She’s excessively cute and a real pleasure to ride. We’re definitely still getting to know each other but she’s going to fit in just fine around here.

Next up is Mac. Seeing as how today is his birthday AND were just reunited after a brief period of not knowing where he was (he accidentally got taken by someone who had a similar looking horse at round up last month so we’ve been in agony wondering where he was until today).

Mac is our little accident. Someone wanted to keep some horses in a corral on the far end of our property for a while and failed to inform us that one was a stud. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Ofcourse he broke out and was trying to breed all our mares when I found out. Luckily he only got one and so here came Mac. He had always been a character, immediately working his way into our hearts as well as the rest of the herd. He has been caught eating out of the bird feeder, INSIDE the chicken coop, and numerous other mischievous places. Being named after my Papa Mac, who I was away visiting for the last time when he was born, it’s no wonder he’s got a spot of mischief in him. 🙃 He packs really well and is becoming a solid saddle horse. We love you little Mac Attack! Glad your home and Happy Birthday. 💕 of instagram

Next up is “Billy”. He’s another Mustang and what a character he is. He can often be found standing in the water tank or splashing in the water tank or pestering another of the horses or reeeeeaaaaching his neck as far as he can through the corral panel to get a little nibble of grass. He’s super athletic but maybe a bit of a stoner 😂. He wants to cuddle with you as often as possible and is sort of a dork. But we love him very much. Another all around mountain horse that excels at packing or being under saddle. 💕 of instagram

Next up is “Happy”, one of our old boys who just never seems to age. He is a mustang although his history before life at Sleeping Indian isn’t well known to us. He can pack or ride and still has a few tricks up his old sleeves now and then. He doesn’t get in a hurry for anybody who doesn’t know how to ask for it but he will take care of you on the toughest of trails. He taught my personal horse Tuff how to escape ALL the fences and the two of them can often be seen where the grass is greener (and where they’re not supposed to be 😆). Thanks for the miles Happy Jack! Keep pickin em up and puttin em down buddy. 💕 of instagram

First up is “Duchess” aka “The Queen of Farts”. She keeps everyone entertained with her never ending songs of flatulence. 😜 💨 She’s taken care of the very young and the very old on the trail for many years. An amazing babysitter for beginners, she’s also an awesome horse for the experienced rider. A joy to ride and be around she works hard for us and we love her so much.💕
