🐾 One Year with Leilani 🐾 We are thrilled to share an update about “Pippa,” now known as Leilani! About a year ago, Leilani found her forever home, and since then, she’s been thriving. From watching over her turtle siblings to taking agility classes, Leilani has proven what a superstar she is. She even won an award in her scent class! Massive thanks to her family for giving her the loving home she deserves and to the staff and volunteers for caring for her at the shelter. Every animal deserves a chance and we love getting updates on our adopted animals ❤️

We want to take a moment to extend a heartfelt, thank you to all who came out to our first trunk or treat event your enthusiasm and support made it a memorable day for everyone involved. A special shout out to the Carlsbad fire department for joining us and adding a touch of excitement to the festivities we truly appreciate your presence and support. Big thank you also goes out to Starbucks for providing the delightful pup cups. Our furry friends loved them. Lastly, We want to express my gratitude to all volunteers and fosters who dedicated their time and energy to make this event successful, we couldn’t have done it without each and everyone of you thank you for helping us create such a fun and community center event

The dog formerly known as Howard, the chief digging officer for County Animal Services, who helped break ground last week for the new County animal shelter in Santee, woke up in his new home today. A Spring Valley couple adopted him on Friday.
His name is now Hanzo, named for a Japanese ninja, and he has a new “sister,” Ai, a Japanese word for love. Together they are going on long walks with his new dad Rick Greatting.
Hanzo, a 2-year-old Hound Shepherd mix, came into the Bonita shelter in February as a stray and for the last nine months, he had been patiently waiting for a home. Then, last week one of his attendants started training him to dig for a very important job.
Greatting said he and his wife Namiko were looking for another companion dog and picked 10 dogs they were interested in meeting.
“The first dog we chose to meet was Hanzo and that’s when they told us, he was a tv star,” he said. “We didn’t know when we picked him, but I watched him on YouTube last night.”
They chose Hanzo because he had “the same kind of chill” as their other dog. Soon after getting home, they all set off on a 1.5 mile long walk and the dogs were great together. Later that night, “they were chasing each other around like maniacs.” And he slept in a dog bed on the floor of his parent’s bedroom with his sister nearby in another dog bed.

🎉 Big news from the shelter!! Our Chief Digging Officer, Howard, found his forever home today!! He’s now officially named Hanzo and we couldn’t be happier for him and his new family. Thank you to the amazing Animal Care Attendants and volunteers for their love and care during his stay with us. 🐾💜

After a day of hard work, some of our amazing staff and volunteers in Carlsbad kicked back with a spirited game of kickball!! 🏆⚽️ Their dedication and efforts are truly appreciated. Not only did they have a blast, but two of our sheltered dogs also enjoyed some enrichment and play time! 🐾❤️ A big shoutout to our team for their passion and hard work!
