SOK East 2025 Seminar/workshop
I'm working on details for the 2025 Workshop /Seminar! One of the challenges we face as trainers and handlers is recognizing when we are Teaching our Dog vs. Testing our Dog. It's easily to do, I’m guilty of it myself. There are a lot of reasons why and how it occurs, time, frustration, and just overall lack of awareness are all contributing factors. Once the dog shows some expertise in a certain drill we start running them through the exact same drill hoping for better results Vs. stopping to think "why is this dog not getting better"? The answer might be you're testing the dog against your perceived standard or someone else vs addressing the shortfall. Overtime this shortfall becomes habitual and extremely challenging to correct. This Seminar begins Friday morning at 9am with checkin at Two Ponds in Manning SC. We will have our first initial brief of events followed by lunch. What to Expect: • Each day we will have multiple locations set for you and your dog to run a drill. Each of the drills selected for this seminar is intended to teachYour dog a specific skill. These drills range from Marks (my dog looses track of the “Memory” Bird), lining manners, (my dog beats me to the line), lining drills (my dogs head swings from left to right vs locking in). Sitting on the Whistle (my dog often blows me off and continues the hunt). Some of these drills on the surface may not seem to challenging, that’s okay, your dog is going to pick up on it start applying it. Others will be challenging depending your dog’s age, maturity and training. Some may not be ready for a challenging drill. That is okay also, now you have something to teach going forward. For those who attended our last Seminar I discussed our (Crawl, Walk, Run” run approach to building a gundog. Nothing has changed!! These drill will compliment what's been covered in the past. We will debrief Friday and Saturday nights. Answer any questions you have as well touching on the next
