Little update on our young does!

Twyla (the paint) is Kristin’s baby, born in the beginning of 2022. She has totally blossomed, and we are SO proud of her!

Chloe is also growing into herself and getting better every day!

These pictures don’t do them justice! We’ll have to get them on a show lead soon!

Hoof trims! ✂️🐐

Routine hoof trims are vital for the long term health of a goat. Here’s a nice before/after of a trimmed hoof. In the left picture, you can see how the hoof has curled under itself. This will effect how the goat walks and bares weight on this hoof. The picture on a right shows a hoof that is flat with a short toe, and even heel. On the left of the hoof you can see a couple spots of red. The beauty of the goat hoof is that the quick is easy to see! A good rule of thumb is to keep trimming until you see the quick start to show. Once you see red, stop!

We trim our goats’ hooves about every month or two. Roman gets his feet trimmed often so it’ll be an easy process when he’s 200+ pounds!

The color on the hind end of the does shows Roman has marked them. We put a harness on him with a crayon on the chest. This helps to identify when each doe was bred to help us figure out when the doe will kid! We’re shooting for December-March babies for 4-Hrs to show!

It’s almost time for this handsome boy to go meet his girlfriends!!

A doe’s cycle is 21 days with the breeding window only being 12-48 hours. We will leave Roman in for 45 days to make sure they all get covered!
