Kootenai Pets For Life shared this amazing article on building winter shelters for feral cats!

With a predicted cold front moving in this weekend, it is definitely something to consider if you're concern about any ferals in your neighborhood.

What You’ll Need: Large bin or tote container with lid (18 gallons is a good size) Styrofoam cooler to fit inside (you can use a smaller bin/tote if you can’t find a Styrofoam cooler) Sharpie Knife or Box Cutter Strawβ€” not hay! Ruler or Measuring Tape Duct Tape (or other strong tape)

Here's some not so romantic facts about unaltered dogs πŸ’”:

A female dog experiences her first heat cycle around six months of age. Dogs are capable of producing over 10 litters of puppies in their lifetimes, and if left unspayed, a female dog's risk of developing uterine infections, mammary gland tumors and other forms of cancer will greatly increase as she ages.

As for the boys, an unaltered male dog will have an increased risk of various cancers and having undesirable behaviors (mounting, urine marking, etc.)

Health problems aside, unaltered dogs are more likely to wander away from home to search for a mate. This places them in danger of getting injured and producing excessive litters of puppies.

And don't even get us started on unaltered cats! πŸ€ͺ

To help combat pet overpopulation and the rising cost of spaying and neutering, we have started doing a monthly raffle in our thrift store to raise money for a spay and neuter fund! This fund will help support and encourage families in our community to spay and neuter their pets.

This month's raffle basket is filled to the brim with Valentine goodies for you and your sweetheart to enjoy! Tickets are $1 each, or you can get 6 tickets for $5!

We hope you enjoy this raffle and will support our spay and neuter fund! Because let's face it... kittens and puppies may be cute, but there is nothing cute or romantic about overpopulation and the health risks it brings to our beloved animals ❀️

TJ is currently about five months old and is mostly a mix of pit bull, lab, and husky. He is a little shy at first but is making great strides in overcoming his fear of new places and people. TJ loves to play with his brother Opie and other dogs. With some additional training and training, TJ would make a great dog for an individual or family!

If you are interested in adopting TJ, you can call our kennel staff at 208-267-7504. Applications are also available on our website.

HAPPY CATURDAY! 😸

Meet Cosmo and Dobby! πŸ–€πŸ€

Cosmo and Dobby are a bonded pair, meaning they need to be adopted together. They are both around four months old and are litter mates. Although they are a bonded pair and rely on each other, Cosmo and Dobby each have their own distinct personality.
Cosmo is adventurous and often gets the "zoomies" πŸŒ€. He is also extremely loving and playful.
Dobby is a bit more reserved but still loving. His foster Mom says that he enjoys sunbathing by the heaters in the house.
Both of them were bottle fed as babies and are therefore very trusting with humans. ❀️
If you are interested in adopting Cosmo and Dobby, you can submit an application through our website. Applications are also available on request in our thrift store. Please call our Kennel Staff at 208-267-7504 if you have any questions or if you would like to set up an appointment to meet Cosmo and Dobby.

From The Idaho Humane Society's FB page:

FRIENDLY REMINDER: MANY PEOPLE WILL LIGHT FIREWORKS TONIGHT AND THROUGH THE WEEKEND!

The Idaho Humane Society urges pet owners to keep their animals safely indoors this evening. We recommend:

*Keep pets indoors: Your pets will do best locked safely in the house when fireworks begin going off. Close windows and pull the blinds so they can see and hear less of the chaos outside. Consider using a crate to keep them contained and secure. Don’t be tempted to take pets with you to celebrations where crowds can add to the stress associated with the fireworks.

*Keep them distracted: Leave on a radio, television, or fans to disguise some of the firework noise. Give your pet a special treat, chew, or interactive toy to play with that will keep their attention focused on something fun instead of the commotion outside.

*Keep identification current: Even with the best planning, accidents do happen and pets can get loose. Please make sure your pet’s identification tag has your most current contact information and is attached to a well-fitted collar. Update your pet’s microchip information if you’ve moved or changed phone numbers since it was implanted.
