Hanna Jung is fostering two small (5-6lbs) fully-grown young female Malteses (2-4 years old).
There is an adoption fee for each ($500), so that we know they are going to good and safe homes. They do not need to be adopted together, so I am looking for 2 awesome families. They are friendly with my own 3 dogs, so it is okay if you have another dog in your home. And we can definitely have a meet and greet with your dogs first as well.
But I am looking for somewhat of an experienced dog mom/dad. They seem to be very timid and scared. Unless you are willing to put in the work and be patient with them until they feel comfortable, please don’t apply!
They seem to be somewhat potty trained. They enjoy pottying outside rather than indoors. But you will have to be patient for the first week or more while they learn the layout of your home and where you want them to potty. Consistently taking them outside to potty will help them adjust to potty training in your home faster because they are already accustomed to potty outside on grass.
Because they are smaller, they have smaller bladders, so please have a potty schedule (every 4 hours or so) where you can take them out at the same time each day. Putting an alarm on your phone every 4 hours will be helpful as it can be a good training lesson for the new pup because every time she hears your alarm go off and you immediately take them outside to potty, they will eventually learn to wait for that alarm to potty.
Example: 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm, and once more RIGHT before bed. *This might seem like a lot, but if you do this, it will be worth it: they will have had enough and frequent potty breaks throughout the day, they will sleep through the night comfortably with an empty bladder and not whine/cry/bark/wake you up in the middle of the night for you to take them out at 3 in the morning. Nobody wants that. Not even your pups!
So do your due diligence to your pup, so that they can be comfortable during the night.
(Also, I do not withdraw water with my own pups; they drink water as late as 11pm before bed. But because I take them out so frequently throughout the day plus one last time right before bed, my 3 dogs sleep 10+ hours quietly without any mistakes in bed).
These little girls will not go to a home where both parents are working outside the home; I cannot send them to homes where they will be alone for 8+ hours by themselves. I am less inclined to send them to a family with young children, but not totally opposed. It’s just that kids can have a harder time being gentle and calm, and these pups are very scared/timid and only 5-6lbs. If you turn around too quickly or turn a corner too fast, these pups who will have followed your every step will get stepped on or hit in the face. Thank you in advance for understanding!
I will have a much lengthier, detailed explanation of their routine and how you can help best adjust this new pup to their new home. I will also have their birthdays, adoption fee, and other important information. Please DM your family information, lifestyle, where the pup will be during the day and night, and I will message you this information.
Thank you for reading all of that! Adopt, not shop whenever possible!
