Hi friends! We are busy dreaming up the next Trail Challenge. It will be circus – Carnival themed. I know I’ve already announced that. If you have any items that you don’t want that might fit this theme we may be interested. We are specifically looking for the IKEA children’s tents that are red and white and maybe a few stuffed animals. And whatever else maybe you have. Please message if you have some thing you’re willing to part with or lend! Thank you!!

Good Morning! I want to take a moment to thank the Maryland Horse Industry Board for our 2024 Grant. As a result, we have had 7 beautiful Mountain Trail Obstacles built - and we used 6 of them in the first show. (7th one will be in the next challenge). We had clinics that 40 participants attended over 2 long days. Thanks to all of our helpers and clinicians that were able to make this happen.
Special Thanks to Pat and Amy Fagan for building and delivering all of these amazing obstacles!

Our first show we had 56 entries. And we started our Extreme Challenge! We are expecting even more entries for the next show. Thanks to Chuck Armstrong for taking so many wonderful photos and they are posted on his page. FB locked me out last night for doing some repetitive activity. So you were not tagged but you were messaged.

Please take a moment to make a comment to show appreciation.

June Extreme Challenges - I am trying to get a video to post of one.

For the Riding Extreme Challenge - It was tough. Not one of the 8 competitors was able to do it. It was tougher than it looked. We will keep this in mind. Thanks to each of the 8 competitors who tried to attempt it!

For the In-hand Extreme Challenge which was to side-pass an L: We had an intermediate winner - Nancy Burtner who did it successfully in 28 seconds. Congrats Nancy - you have a nice prize coming!

We also had 3 Open competitors do it successfully and the winner was Kim Klinger in 18 seconds. Donna Miller had 29 seconds with Razz and Herbie with 23 seconds. Congrats to Kim - you have won a nice prize! We had 12 people attempt it!

We know this is what everyone is waiting for!
Please check over and make sure you are in the right division. We should have them right but if you think you are in the wrong one message us and we will go from there.

We feel that the day went very smoothly. If you have any concerns or comments, please message us. We appreciate those of you that are showing multiple horses and multiple classes (Gamblers and Judged). Please consider selecting multiple time slots to help ease the burden for yourself.

Gamblers - IF you do not do an obstacle as listed on the sheet as an option - you will not receive any points for doing that obstacle. Such as go thru the curtain and stop under for 3 seconds. MANY people forgot the stop. So no points were earned. So - feel free for the next show to schedule your judged in one hour and your Gamblers in the next hour.

Congrats to all competitors - win or lose - YOU CAME, YOU SHOWED and YOU COMPETED and FINISHED the courses! GREAT JOB to everyone!

Ribbons will be available at the next show - or in a week if you want to arrange pickup.

The next show will be Saturday, August 3rd. We will start at 8 am. If you know any TIP - Thoroughbred (ex-race horses) they can join the Thoroughbred Incentive Program and compete for additional ribbons and prizes. Also Mini's - Calling all Mini's!! Please share the word. Anyone is welcome!

Here is the layout of the obstacles. Refer to the course instructions for more details.

05/30/2024

Some hints for Judging purposes:
*Always come into and exit an obstacle being straight, from at least 1 horse length away.
*Refrain from touching the horse in the judged classes.
*You may approach an obstacle 3x total if you choose, then you must move on to the next obstacle.
*Greet each judge and make sure they are ready before starting
*Do not let your horse eat an obstacle
*There are pre-determined tie breakers

Gamblers:
* You are allowed to do every obstacle and/or both options on each obstacle 2x successfully. You must separate your successful obstacles with another obstacle before working on any obstacle again.
* You may trot between obstacles but you must walk over or through an obstacle. If your horse canters - you will lose the points from the prior obstacle.
*Always try to keep your horse centered on/in an obstacle, unless it it says otherwise in the instructions or you are going with the horse over the obstacle side by side. If that is the case, then you want the center to be between you and your horse.
*You will have 2 min for the Gamblers. We will give you at least 2 time checks and then a "STOP" at the end. Uncompleted obstacles will not count.
*There will be tie-breakers at each show in the event of a tie.

Hi Friends!
We are so excited for our first show - Reminders of some issues:
* Please clean up all poop/droppings of hay, trash, etc. while you are on the club grounds.
* Please be polite, courteous, at all times to animals and people on the club grounds.
* Suggestion that you may want leg/foot protection while on the obstacles.
*Theme is Spring Time in the Mountains". You may wear a mountain or floral type theme in lieu of a collared shirt. As long as it is tasteful!
*Must have collared shirt (unless dressing appropriately and for the theme.) And must have heeled toe boots.
*17 and Under must have on an ASTM approved Riding Helmet

Remember we will run the judged runs first in every hour and then run the Gamblers. (2 horses separated, but out on the course during the judged runs, but only 1 at a time during the Gamblers!)

The Extreme Classes will be fit in as we can during each hour. Please bring $10 CASH per class if you wish to compete in either/both.

You are assigned a time slot. You must be ready when your time slot comes and preferably at the entrance area when your hour starts. We have planned out each hour as we saw worked well. Please bare with us if we get a little behind schedule. We will do our best to keep it running smoothly!

If you have not seen the patterns - they were posted quite a few days ago. Attached is the schedule. If you have any problems or concerns - please let Joy know!

If anyone is interested in ordering any obstacles from our builder - Pat Fagan. Here is the list. And you can order custom stuff from him if you call him.

He is also making a new obstacle that is 3 in 1. It will be a flat bridge that has holders under it that you can then turn it into a teeter totter. It will have sides - that are removable (like pieces of fence) so you can put the sides along the bridge. Then if you remove the sides and you can use it as a rope gate. $400 I believe.

His work is beautiful. VERY Reasonable.

Okay - We checked in with all of you that are signed up for Year End, the Judges, the Club, etc. We have added Saturday, August 3rd as the make up date for the bad weather that cancelled our first show.

Please add this to your calendar!

05/12/2024

UPDATE: The date is open at the club. I am just waiting to hear back from one competitor if they are good with the new date - the first Saturday in August - August 3rd. If so, then we will still leave Oct. 26 as a back up bad weather date. Stay tuned!

For our Year End Series Competitors;
If we could get approval to have a show on the first Saturday in August, would you be able to attend that day? We are a little afraid of waiting until Oct. 26 for a rain date from the first show and would like to keep that one as a second back up if possible.

Please comment below.
