Recently we said goodbye to a Second Chance legend. Jake was initially adopted from Second Chance and then returned years later for alleged cat issues and injuring another dog. He stayed boarded in kennels with our trainer for months, as no foster was willing to take a chance on his bad behavior (understandably!).
Our director at the time decided to jail break Jake for Christmas break in 2018, as her parents had a setup where Jake could be kept away from their other pets. And the rest is history!
Her parents adopted Jake that Christmas. Despite the allegations, Jake ended up living happily with the resident cats and was a foster dad to many puppies over the years. He loved lounging in his favorite recliner and car rides in a convertible sports car.
He was probably close to 15 years old and suffering from the usual old dog problems. It was his time, and he lived a great life.
Jake will always be a lesson for all of us on giving every animal a fair chance. We don't know if he was falsely accused, or if being in the right environment really made all the difference for him. Either way, we are so glad we found the lid to fit his pot. We thank everyone for taking your own chances on animals and adopting from Second Chance!
