Adorable new flock member joined us today. Say hi to Kirby 🩵🤍💛
She didn't have the greatest start but then she was picked up by two wonderful people who gave her lots of love and attention. In the end they wanted the best for her and decided she needed more bird friends (and less cat friends).
While it always breaks my heart to see loving owners part with their animals, it simultaneously warms my heart to know that they're out there making this world a better place with their kindness.
I'm happy to be able to say that recently (the last 3 drop offs), these are the types of owners I've encountered 🥰

New rescue today! This is a 6 year old male Lineolated (Linnie) or Barred Parakeet. He is coming from a loving family that is simply unable to keep him. Very sweet little guy!

Parrots are like sourpatch kids. For every sweet moment there's a .....not as sweet moment. Scars from Phoenix that a month of Mederma has yet to heal.
That's ok though because the sweet moments are well worth it! If you're not prepared to have a few not so sweet moments, a parrot is not the pet for you! It's part of what they do, it's how they explore and communicate and because they can't tell you what you've done wrong, they use their beaks. Please never hit them or yell at them for simply trying to communicate in the best way they know how, it is a surefire way to lose your animal's trust and they will only act out more.
