I guess it’s irrigation season! This spring has been pretty sunny and dry, which helps us prepare fields for planting but also means we can’t always wait for rain to water in all those little plants. Some years we haven’t had to start irrigating until May (and in 2019 I think it was June!) but this year we’re making our own April showers.
It wasn’t the most ideal day for pulling plastic on our new caterpillar tunnel, but we got it done with minimal drama. Soon we’ll be seeding 4 more beds of greens for early spring!
We’re here at @oregoncityfarmersmarket with sooo many summer goodies including #tomatoes #summersquash #cucumbers #basil #eggplant and did I mention tomatoes?! Come see us before 2 pm!
Oh, March. I sure hope you go out like a lamb.
Blustery day for cauliflower harvest! Cheers to all the farmers (& farm workers) out there in this wacky weather. I hope you’re staying safe!!
Guess it was high time I mowed. 😂
Apparently this is our year for doing many small projects that make the farm a little better while waiting for it to stop raining. Bonus: This sun shade will also keep wind and rain out of our wash station. 🌈☔️🥬
Putting the hoops up is always the most fun part of tunnel construction! Hoping the rain will hold off as we put this @farmersfriendllc tunnel in its third (and hopefully last) spot.
The Easter bunny left these cuties in one of our high tunnels. I know they’re probably future lettuce eaters, but for now they’re 😍.
Planting in the hail. What a week.
I saw a drip tape winder on a wheelbarrow bottom near @goodrainfarm last year and filed it away as a future project. This week Amy took my very vague instructions and ran with it! Can’t wait to try this baby out in the field!
@moramorafarm @prairieoakfarm This one’s for you! It works great, but only holds enough compost for one bed at a time so that’s kind of a pain.
Obviously my multitasking skills could use help. 😂 Impressionistic video of me sowing winter covercrop seed on this beautiful fall day!
Nom nom nom... Slug lettuce feast with bonus quail voiceover.
Watering in the second (and final) planting of sweet corn. We use drip irrigation on most of our farm, but overhead sprinklers make it quick and easy to water in newly planted beds. And they give me such a feeling of peace. 💦
Tiny native bees love dandelions, and so do I! It was a good spring day all around. Bonus soundtrack: post pounding for pea trellising.
Moved the cucumber plants off the heat mats today and discovered a pretty intense ant colony. Guess they like the 75 degree nights too!
