Sometimes, it’s the smallest patients who steal the biggest pieces of our hearts. 💞 We caught one of our amazing technicians, Sydney, sharing a quiet, snuggly moment with sweet Daisy Mae, a tiny 2.6-pound senior Yorkie.

It’s moments like these that remind us that it’s not just about the medicine - it’s about the love, too!

🐾 Celebrating a Milestone with Robinson's Rescue! 🎉

This weekend, some of our amazing Valor team members had the pleasure of attending Best in Sheaux and celebrated Robinson's Rescue Low Cost Spay/Neuter reaching an incredible milestone — 100,000 spay and neuter surgeries! 💯K

We're proud to support their mission and be part of an event that highlights the importance of accessible veterinary care in our community. Congratulations to Robinson's Rescue for this remarkable achievement — here's to the next 100K! ❤️🐶🐱

💕 Happy Valentine’s Day & 1-Year Anniversary to Valor! 🎉🐾

One year ago today, on Valentine’s Day, we opened our doors as the first 24/7 emergency veterinary hospital in the area. ❤️🐶🐱 It’s been an incredible year—filled with challenges, triumphs, and most importantly, the opportunity to care for your beloved pets when they needed us most.

To our amazing team: Your dedication, compassion, and hard work are what make Valor special. 🌟 We’ve been incredibly busy this first year, and we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you.

To our clients and community: Thank you for trusting us with your pets. Your support has meant the world to us, and we’re honored to be here for you 24/7.

Here’s to another year of providing exceptional emergency care! If you’ve visited us in the past year, drop a ❤️ in the comments—we’d love to hear from you!

Sweet little “Bear” presented to us a couple of days ago with a suspected GI foreign body. He was newly adopted and his owner noticed that he had a rather large abdomen for a little guy and took him in to be seen and was subsequently transferred to us for surgery. What was interesting about his case is that while he did have some abdominal discomfort, he had a rather normal appetite and did not have any regular vomiting which we typically see with foreign bodies. After looking at his radiographs, we were all shocked!

Bear had an abdomen full of what had the classic look of hair ties! We see this a lot in cats, but dogs it is not as common. We went to surgery and Dr. Monceaux removed nearly a half pound of hair ties from Bear’s stomach! His recovery was uneventful and he was released to his family after a couple of days of post-op care and pampering by his nurses.

Any guesses on how many hair ties we recovered? For reference, Bear came in weighing 7lbs and that’s a gallon size zip lock bag!

We love happy updates!

Halo presented to us 9 days ago extremely lethargic with vomiting and diarrhea, and unfortunately he tested positive for Parvo. Treatment commenced including an injection of the Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody to which Halo responded beautifully! Less than 24 hours later, he made a complete turnaround and was active, eating and drinking and holding it all down. He got to go home! In doing our follow up, Mom sent us this video of adorable little Halo for us to share! How cute is he?!

As 2024 comes to a close, we want to thank everyone for their support and patronage, and wish you a happy and healthy new year!

While our year started off with construction delays and a later opening than we had hoped, we hit the ground running!

- We more than doubled our amazing staff who have brought a variety of skillsets, ideas, excitement and an endless supply of love for their patients.
- Dr. T and Dr. Monceaux, our tenacious leaders, spent months alternating 24 hour shifts until we were able to welcome the charismatic Dr. Saunders as our 3rd full-time Veterinarian.
- We also welcomed THREE “Valor babies” (with another on the way) whose Mom’s worked nearly up to delivery.
- Our staff owned blood donors collectively donated 15 liters of blood for patients in need of transfusions.
-We raised and utilized nearly $7000 for Valor Vets for Pets to help pets and their families.
- We celebrated together, we laughed together, we cried together and we grew together.
- We thrived off our successes and learned from our criticisms as we navigated how to take our combined experience and build a hospital from nothing but a vision to provide the best 24/7 care possible.

We have big plans for 2025 to bring even more value to our wonderful community, so keep an eye out for what’s to come!

Be safe tonight, and remember: We hope you don’t need us, but we are here if you do!

We had a celebrity in the house today! Astrid came to visit dressed in her holiday Reindeer in Training warm up and scoped out her portrait in Room 2, donated by the artistic talents of Megan with Rockers Rescue -Northwest La. She (and her mom) also brought us yummy treats and this gorgeous scentsy warmer for our comfort room. Thank you so much! ❤️

When you have a 24/7 hospital, it’s hard to schedule a holiday party, so we brought the party to the hospital and celebrated with *most* of our team! If you came in today, pardon our noise while we ate and spread some holiday cheer.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Valor!

As you prepare for Thanksgiving, we wanted to remind you of some common pet dangers.

Raw dough: Yeast in raw dough creates carbon dioxide and alcohol through the fermentation process, accelerated by the warm environment of the stomach. This can lead to alcohol poisoning, and dangerous bloating. Do not wait, seek veterinary care immediately!

Grapes and raisins: There is no known toxic dose and while some dogs may never have a problem, others may suffer from acute kidney failure. Prompt treatment is safest!

Turkey and Ham: Salt and fat content may lead to gastritis, pancreatitis and kidney dysfunction. While bland skinless turkey may be safe in small amounts, seasoned or brined turkey may pose a problem.

Garlic and onions: May cause GI upset and anemia leading to weakness, lethargy, labored breathing and collapse. Symptoms may not appear for 1-5 days after ingestion. Cats are more susceptible than dogs, but dogs may be affected if large amounts are ingested.

Bones: Cooked bones in particular can splinter, increasing risk for GI irritation and perforation, while heavier bones can cause tooth fractures.

Chocolate: Theobromine in chocolate can cause vomiting, diarrhea, excessive thirst and urination, rapid heart rate, tremors, seizures, and even death. The darker the chocolate the more dangerous! Additionally, artificial sweeteners like xylitol in sugar free products can result in hypoglycemia and liver failure.

Alcohol: Similar to yeast dough ingestion, alcohol can lead to GI signs, decreased coordination, CNS depression, difficulty breathing, coma, even death. Watch those alcohol filled confections!

Macadamia nuts: Can cause weakness, depression, vomiting, tremors, and an elevated temperature.

If your pet ingests any of these items, please seek veterinary care! While we hope you don’t need us, we are here 24/7 to help.

We wish you a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Copie presented to us with a urethral obstruction (UO) a couple of weeks ago, and subsequently required a perineal urethrostemy (PU). A UO can be caused by many things: urinary crystals, urethral stricture, mucous plugs, or bladder inflammation from unknown causes, and is often complicated by the individual patients anatomy. UOs are an emergency and will lead to death if not treated quickly. With recurrent UOs, it may be beneficial for the patient to have a PU which involves removal of the p***s and widening of the urethra. His PU has healed up wonderfully and he is able to urinate much better. Our apologies to Copie for putting his business out there, but we assured him it was for educational purposes.

This amazing cat has been so incredibly sweet throughout his ordeal, he never stops “making biscuits” even right after surgery! Due to circumstances outside of his health, Copie has had an extended stay with us and we have soaked up every minute of it. He has been a highlight of our days with his never ending purrs, biscuits and loves!

With his owners permission, he celebrated Halloween in style and was a great sport! He gets to go home soon and we are so happy for him and his family but we will miss him dearly. We love you, Copie!

With Halloween quickly approaching we just wanted to send a friendly reminder to keep candy, especially chocolate, out of pets reach!

Theobromine and caffeine in chocolate may cause vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, tremors, seizures, tachycardia (high heart rate) progressing to abnormal heart rhythms, and death in severe cases. The fat and sugar may also lead to GI upset and pancreatitis.

If your pet does happen to indulge in sweet treats, seek veterinary care ASAP! We can often give medication to effectively induce vomiting and prevent or mitigate further complications. Be sure to note what kind (dark, milk or white chocolate) and the quantity ingested if possible!

On a related note, what’s your favorite Halloween candy?? 🎃 👻
