Happy November!

Sponsoring adoptions has helped us find great homes for dogs. The last couple of months Rolly and Po had sponsored adoptions and it helped them find their forever homes!

We come to you with a sad update...

Ellie May, who was a hospice dog fostered by the wonderful John and Tina Dotson, crossed Rainbow Bridge this morning. Even though you can sort of prepare, it still hurts so much to lose them.

John and Tina went above and beyond in all ways to help Ellie May spend the rest of her life happy and loved. They took her on knowing this day would come and their hearts would break. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve this loss.

Run free, Ellie. May! You may not have always had the best life, but your last few months, you received a lifetime of love and for that we are forever grateful!

Happy Halloween from the Boo crew! We thought today would be a good time to introduce our Halloween kittens! They are quite ready for adoption, but they are too cute not to share!

We estimate them to eb about 4/5 months old. They are sweet kittens! Black cats have a bad rep! They almost always have the sweetest personalities.

Meet Bram (M), Drac (M), Hilda (F) and Zelda (F)! Obviously we went with Halloween names (Dracula and Sabrina the teenage witch)

Bonnie had a busy couple days. She had a sleepover with some news friends and also represented Barktown with her human friend Haylee at Bernheim Middle School during their Carnival Night. Bernheim students raised money for the rescue from the games and the public also got to learn about what we do at Barktown.

Bonnie is a great AMBASSADOR, but we really want her to find a forever home! She's an amazing soul!

Cameron earned the nickname "Frat boy" because of personality. He likes to show off, flirt with the ladies, and strives to be top in class. Definitely like a college student that is transitioning between a teenager to adult! He has come such a long way, and needs his special person.

Did we mention he also likes to be center of attention and LOVES the camera! He's quite the ham, that Cam!

We will help show you the way with Cameron and the training stays with him. You cam even complete the class again with Cameron, free of charge!

Be sure to come out for Halloween Movie Night at Bourbon City Bark Park this Saturday. Barktown will be there along with Nelson County KY Animal Control and Shelter and Humane Society of Nelson County. We will have dogs there for meet and greet (we don't do same day adoptions.) The Shelter will have dogs available for adoption!

HAPPY MONDAY, let's have some fun!

We love seeing all pets in their Halloween costume, so we thought we had a contest!!!

Here are the rules:

Post your photo in the comments with your pet's name and their costume between NOW and Friday, October 18th at 3 pm. We will them shut off comments, and the judges will make a decision on a top 10! Those top ten will be posted Sunday, October 20th, at 6 pm.

VOTING will then begin October 20th at 6 pm through Sunday, October 27th @ 9 pm.

Winners will be announced Monday, October 28th.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded prizes. (Stay tuned for more details!)

Position: Kennel Caretaker (Part-Time, 15-20 hours per week)
Location: Boston, Kentucky
About Barktown Rescue:
Barktown Rescue is a dedicated animal rescue organization committed to providing a safe haven for dogs and cats in need. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs and cats, ensuring their well-being and finding them loving forever homes. With a focus on compassion, responsibility, and animal welfare, we are looking for a part-time Kennel Caretaker to join our team and help provide top-notch care for the dogs and cats in our care.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and compassionate individual to fill the role of Kennel Caretaker at Barktown Rescue. The Kennel Caretaker will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and well-being of our kennel facility and providing essential care to the dogs and cats under our care. This role requires attention to detail, a love for animals, and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities:
• Kennel shifts including two (2) weekends per month.
• Feed and provide fresh water to the dogs and cats according to their specific dietary requirements.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by our veterinary team.
• Take the dogs outside for bathroom breaks and exercise sessions.
• Monitor the animals for any signs of distress, illness, or behavioral issues, and report findings to the building supervisor.
• Assist with basic grooming and hygiene tasks such as brushing, bathing, and nail trimming.
• Clean and sanitize kennels, bedding, and common areas to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
• Maintain accurate records of feeding, medications, and any notable observations.
• Assist with basic obedience training and socialization efforts to help prepare the dogs for potential adoption.
• Interact with potential adopters and volunteers in a friendly and informative manner.
• Perform light cleaning duties in the kennel facility, including sweeping, mopping, and laundry as needed.
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of both humans and animals.
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
Qualifications:
• Genuine passion for animal welfare and a commitment to our rescue's mission.
• Experience working with dogs and cats in a shelter, rescue, veterinary, or similar setting is preferred.
• Basic understanding of animal behavior, health, and care requirements.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects, including bags of dog food and crates.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, sometimes emotionally challenging environment.
• Flexibility to work holidays as needed.

Compensation:
- Hourly wage: $13 per hour
- Part-time position: 15-20 hours per week
- Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of rescue dogs.
