Angell Veterinary Skin Allergy and Ear Service is a referral service for Veterinarians and clients of the 24 hours a day Angell Animal Medical Center. The service specializes in allergic, immune-mediated, neoplastic, and congenital dermatological conditions in cats and dogs. The Dune aka Demodex

The little hair follicle mite was found by Dr. Umstead on Minxie. Demodex Gatoi can cause significant itching, and often symptoms mimics allergies.... treatment with steroids can unfortunately make the mite infection worse

Sarcoptic mange or scabies are caused by these minute mites in the video. They live in the top layer of the skin in dogs, coyotes, foxes and possibly raccoons. The mites will typically not spread to cats from an infected dog and only rarely will humans be affected by the canine mite. Humans and cats have their own species of mange mites. The infestation is intensely pruritic and causes a very crusting dermatitis typically affecting the ears, face, elbows and hocks, rarely will it progress to cause lesion of the dorsal aspect of the dogs. The mites can be difficult to diagnose and at times patients will be treated empirically based on high index of suspicion and only dogs in a household should be treated since the mites are highly contagious from dog to dog.
