🚨 Emergency Dog Transport: Help Needed!🚨
We have been working to evacuate 21 dogs and 19 cats from South Carolina shelters ahead of Tropical Storm Debby. Getting these animals to safety will have a massive impact for pets who rely on shelters in low country and coastal areas in SC - areas that are expected to get historic rainfall and potentially catastrophic flooding.
We need your help! Caring for these dogs is costly, and we’re asking for donations to support their care.
This emergency transport comes at a time when our shelters are already at capacity. In order to make space for these incoming dogs, we’re holding a special fee-waived adoptathon this week starting tomorrow (Wed 8/7) and running until Sunday. All dogs aged one and older will be available for adoption, fee-free, at all MSPCA shelters. Thanks to BISSELL Pet Foundation for sponsoring this event!
Please spread the word to help us help dogs during this storm!

There will also be a handful of new large adult dogs who will be eligible for our fee waived event. Go in to Northeast Animal Shelter during open hours - 11:30-5 daily - to speak to our staff and get the matchmaking process going.

🚨 LONG STAY DOG ALERT! PLEASE SHARE! 🚨
Meet Nelly, a sweet 5-year-old girl who's been waiting too long for a family to adopt her. It breaks our hearts to see such a wonderful dog overlooked. She is sooo snuggly, fun, and smart. She has excellent loose-leash walking skills, and she loves her puzzle toys. Nelly is looking to be an only pet but could do well with well-matched dog friends.
Visit our Cape Cod Adoption Center any day from Tuesday to Sunday, 1-4 PM, to meet Nelly and start the adoption process. No appointment needed – just drop in and speak to our staff about finding your perfect match.

Gills is a roughly 2 year old stray cat many would say is lucky to be alive. He was found by Boston Animal Control injured in Dorchester and brought to Angell Animal Medical Center on the evening of May 10. Officers believe he may have been hit by a car and knew that Angell would be able to provide the extensive medical care he needed. Honestly, Gills was in really tough shape when he came to us. He had multiple fractures on his face, and he was in immense pain. We had to remove both of his eyes and insert a wire into his fractured jaw to help it heal. Despite all of this, he woke up from his surgery purring and is such a sweet boy. We have been unable to find his family who may be missing him. Please reach out to us if you or anyone you know may have information on Gills’ owners - if there is a family out there missing this sweet boy our primary goal is reunification. Otherwise, he will be available for adoption after about 8 weeks.
Our relationship with the City of Boston’s Animal Control is evolving, and we are anticipating a higher volume of injured stray cats than ever before. Please give to help ensure we can provide the medical care for every injured cat who needs us 🩵🩵🩵

This sweet 10 month old boy is Magoo. Magoo was found stray with a severe injury to his rear leg - his leg was so badly fractured that his bone was visible, and the wound was necrotic. He was brought to a veterinary clinic who quickly determined he needed more support than they could offer him, so they brought him into our care.
We amputated his painful leg in our clinic, but during his examination Dr. Fellman discovered that Magoo also has a diaphragmatic hernia. This is a small tear in the diaphragm that, if left untreated, can allow the organs to migrate and cause serious issues with heart and lung function. This can be a tricky surgery, but the shelter clinic will be collaborating with Angell Animal Medical Center by using their advanced anesthesia monitoring abilities to help keep Magoo stable. Despite it all, Magoo is sweet and affectionate, offering slow blinks and purrs to those around him. He will be an amazing companion pet once he’s all better!
We have been evolving our relationship with local Animal Control departments to better help injured stray cats. More information to come, but Magoo is already an incredible example of this work in action 🩵🐈⬛

Pretty Daisy has been waiting for months for someone to pick her! This 5 year old tuxedo cat was spicier when she first came to us, but has warmed up quite a bit during her time as an office cat. She spends her days sitting in her human office-mate’s lap, and she is very affectionate! Like many cats, Daisy has her touch limits, but she communicates those limits well. She is a cat person’s cat, and we know she will continue to blossom with a cat-savvy adopter who can give her space when she needs it and attention when she wants it.
Anyone interested in adopting Daisy can visit Northeast Animal Shelter during open hours - 11:30-5 every day. No appointment needed, but she is in an office and not on the adoption floor, so let the staff know you’d like to meet Daisy!

Miss Pinky is enjoying her sliver of sunlight from her kennel this Monday 🌞
Pinky is a 1 year old 50 lb mixed breed dog who is a waiting patiently for a family! She is super sweet and energetic, loves people and other dogs, and she has the wiggliest bum. She would enjoy an active adopter who will take her on adventures. Pinky is young and smart, she will need some structure as well as mental stimulation (Training games! Puzzles! Sniffy projects!) to help her grow up into her best self.
Pinky would LOVE a well matched role model dog friend, and would enjoy children who are on board with training. We have no history of her living with cats and would recommend complete separation and slow introduction. Those interested in learning more can visit MSPCA at Nevins Farm during open hours - 12-3 PM Tuesday-Sunday, no appointment or application needed!

When Una was surrendered to our Boston Adoption Center with 6 other German Shepherds, we noticed that she is smart, friendly, and very energetic for a 7 year old dog. Despite that energy, there was something holding her back - Una is in pain, and x-rays revealed that she has severe arthritis in both of her hips. Our veterinary team believes that the best way to give Una the happy and comfortable life she deserves is to do a hip replacement for her at Angell Animal Medical Center. This is a major surgery, just like it would be for a human, but she is very uncomfortable and this will improve her quality of life in a huge way. Una’s surgery and related care are expected to cost more than $10,000. Please donate so we can give Una, and dogs like her, life-changing care and a hopeful future.
Large adult dogs in the shelter often have hard times finding homes as is, and this will give her a much better chance at finding an adopter since they will not have to take on that cost. After the surgery, Una will need about two weeks in foster, and then we will start looking for a home for her.

You may have noticed that the name of this page has changed from Northeast Animal Shelter to MSPCA Angell! Northeast Animal Shelter is still here, but we’ve joined forces with the MSPCA-Angell and we are one step closer to uniting our online presence so you can learn about ALL of the animals we help, all in one place 💙 This gives all of us a better opportunity to serve our community, provide additional life-saving programs and services, and protect more animals from cruelty and neglect. For example, with our powers combined we are able to say yes to so many more shelters across the country who desperately need us to take dogs during this national dog overpopulation crisis - like this group who is coming in from Miami Dade today! Life changing transports like these wouldn’t be possible without us working together. Even better? More adoptable pals looking for a home! Thank you for your continued support as we grow!!
Rose is a staff favorite and glorified potato. Her likes include people, other dogs, and belly rubs of course. Come meet her at NEAS during open hours seven days a week from 11:30am-5pm
Tammy’s adoption fee will be WAIVED 10/20-10/22! Subaru’s National Make a Dog’s Day on October 22nd is a celebration of the shelter animals who need our love the most— the older, physically challenged, last-to-be-chosen we lovingly call “the Underdogs.” And thanks to grants from Atlantic Subaru, Ira Subaru, and Autofair Subaru we’ll be waiving the fees for our Underdogs… and cats, smallies, pigs and roosters too – that weekend! Stop in to any of our adoption centers between 10/20-10/22 to take home your “underdog,” like any one of this sweet baby who has been here way too long 😭
Come adopt a puppy at our adoption center - we’re open seven days a week from 11:30am-5pm, no appointment necessary. Visit us at 347 Highland Ave Salem, MA
