4 Emotional Extremes that dogs display:

Fight - pushy, rude, “too much” during play, aggressive

Flight - runs away, leaves, ducks away or avoids situations

Freeze - dissociates, gets very still, “nobody is home”

Fawn - overexcited greetings or very submissive behavior

Goal is always to support your dog to move toward the green or yellow-green center of the diamond, away from the orange and red extremes, which indicate they are above their current emotional threshold and no longer have the ability to regulate their emotions appropriately.

Our approach to dog training is DIFFERENT. Here's how ➡️​​​​​​​​​
· Dogs choose inappropriate behaviors for a REASON. Understanding the underlying REASONS behind your dog's so-called "behavior problems" is the first step toward helping them choose more appropriate behaviors in the future.

· Contrary to what you may have been told, obedience training, behavior modification and forming 'positive associations' are NOT permanent solutions to your dog's poor behavior choices... and it doesn't matter whether you are using treats and toys, or corrections and punishment -- these common behavior-focused solutions don't solve the actual problem! In fact, most "behavior modification" and "obedience training" is, at best, a band-aid that temporarily masks the true, underlying reasons your dog is choosing to behave inappropriately.

· Our dogs are our BEST FRIENDS, not adversaries to be subdued (!) and they are deeply influenced by their own strong emotions, relationships, habits and many additional factors.

· Truly understanding your dog's underlying reasons for choosing certain behaviors, coaching them to build critical life skills, helping to improve their emotional regulation skills, and deepening your ability to communicate with and relate to one another is the only long-term solution to every so-called "behavior problem" we see in our dogs.
