Welcome to our new series called “Where are they now!” Featuring some of our memorable fosters and sharing their stories and triumphs.
On this week’s feature..
Kermit (formerly known as Sweets) was found abandoned in a shed with her mom and sister. There’s no saying how long she had been there, but things were looking bleak. Their mom was no longer producing milk to feed them - they were scared and quickly running out of time. Not only was she hungry, thirsty, and abandoned, but her eye was very clearly having some significant issues.
We brought Kermit (and her sister) into the rescue and over the course of weeks, we watched them learn to love & trust humans. For the first time in Kermit’s life, she learned the security of a full food bowl, the joy of squeaky toys, and the warmth of a clean bed.
Kermit visited an ophthalmologist who unfortunately determined that there was nothing to be done for her eye and the only option we had was to remove it. Following her enucleation, she came back to her foster home acting like a brand new puppy. For the first time, she didn’t have pain. The relief she felt was visible, and her spunky spirit flourished.
Kermit, like many dogs with special needs, waited for the right adopter to find her. Eventually, a wonderful couple found her and the rest is history.
Here’s what Kermit’s mom has to say about her:
“Since her adoption in April of 2024, Kermit has been an amazing addition to our family! She became BFFs with our dog Yoda almost immediately! You can find them wrestling, playing tug, snuggling and sprinting around each other almost all day-whether it be at home, at the Westminster Hills Dog Park, or at their doggy day care (where Kermit even made friends with the house cats!) Kermit has ran up to 6 miles, learned to skijor (pulling her new mom and dad on cross country skis!), and loves the occasional work day with mom where she will soon start training as an animal assisted therapy dog. Her favorite toys consist of small wool ball toys (which she has at least 10 of) Our lives are quite full with Kermit in our family and she has been an immense help to Yoda (a very anxious boy).”
