🐾 Meet Dr. Neravanda! 🧠

For the past 16 years, Dr. Dharshan Neravanda, a board-certified Veterinary Neurologist/Neurosurgeon, has been a trusted expert in diagnosing and treating neurological conditions in pets. From seizures and epilepsy to spinal cord injuries and tumors, he leads our Neurology Service with advanced diagnostics, medical expertise, and surgical precision.

We are incredibly grateful to have Dr. Neravanda as part of our team, where his dedication and compassion have helped countless pets regain mobility, comfort, and quality of life.

🐾 Meet Poppy! 🐾

Poppy’s journey is one of resilience and love. Recently rescued by one of our team members, she faced a spinal cord injury due to a ruptured disc. Thanks to surgery and ongoing laser therapy, she’s on the road to recovery.

Poppy hasn’t met a person or animal she doesn’t adore, and we’re so grateful to everyone who gives rescue pets like her a second chance at a forever home. ❤️🏡

📢 Bowie Community, We Need Your Help! 🙏🐾

Yesterday, one of our employees was driving home when they witnessed a dog get hit by a car about 3-4 miles from our hospital. They immediately stepped in to rescue the dog, and the pup has since received medical care.

We believe this dog has a loving home, and we’d love to reunite them with their family. If you recognize this dog or are the owner, please call our hospital as soon as possible, 301-809-8800.

We are also working with PG County Animal Control to report the situation, so you can reach out to them for more information as well.

The Internal Medicine Department is here to help with your pet’s health challenges, big or small. Here are some common questions we get, and the answers you’ve been looking for!

💡 What does Internal Medicine cover?

From chronic illnesses to complex conditions, our specialists handle everything from gastrointestinal disorders, kidney and liver issues, to hormonal imbalances like diabetes or thyroid problems.

💡 When should my pet see an internist?

If your pet has ongoing symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, increased thirst, or unexplained lethargy, it’s time for a deeper dive into their health.

💡 What tests might be recommended?

Depending on your pet’s condition, we may suggest extensive blood work, ultrasound, endoscopy, radiographs or advanced imaging to get the clearest picture of what’s going on.

💡 Do I need a referral?

Yes, your primary veterinarian will send us your pet’s records and let us know what’s been tried so far, so we can pick up where they left off.

🌟 Help Bring Shadow Home! 🌟

We need your help finding Shadow, a beloved Australian Shepherd with a heart as big as his friendly smile. Shadow was brought to our hospital by a client as a lost dog about 6 weeks ago. Thanks to his microchip, we identified his family, but tragically, before they could pick him up, the client quietly left with Shadow and never returned. Shadow’s family lives in Bowie and is desperate for his safe return.💔

Here’s what you need to know:

🐾 Description: Grey/blue Australian Shepherd, walks with a limp due to a back injury. His back left leg is weak.

🐾 Temperament: Extremely social and friendly.

🐾 Health Concerns: Shadow has special needs, including difficulty controlling his bowels and the need to be carried upstairs. He avoids the heat and prefers cool, shady spots.
