As a rescue, we never want to place judgment on the people who bring us their animals. Life happens, circumstances change, and many people truly love their animals deeply. But Orion reminded us of something that we need to say clearly and lovingly: suffering doesn’t need to happen and it is preventable. Treatment options and outcomes aren’t always something we can control. Finances, prognosis, and timing can all be overwhelming. But allowing an animal to live day after day in consistent pain is something within our control. No animal should be forced to wake up every morning hurting, surviving instead of living. Please know there are options. Reach out to your veterinarian and ask about payment plans, resources, or compassionate care. And if end of life care becomes necessary and you cannot manage it on your own, please reach out to a rescue before suffering continues. This morning, we let Orion go peacefully. He is no longer in pain, no longer trapped in a body that could not support him, and he was surrounded by so much love as he took his final rest. As a rescue, we are faced with these decisions more often than we ever want to be. They are never easy. But we always measure quality of life above all else, and when letting go becomes the kindest option, we choose comfort, dignity, and peace. Orion was incredibly strong. He was incredibly stoic. He endured far longer than he ever should have. His pain was immense and it was preventable. We share this not in anger, but in love. For Orion. And for every animal who deserves comfort, dignity, and relief from pain.
