Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars are the easier and less fussy version of pumpkin cheesecake. My recipe uses just 12 ingredients, comes together quickly, and is made WITHOUT a water bath!

Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce
2 cups milk
2 cups heavy cream
½ cup butter
1 cup white sugar
4 large eggs, beaten slightly
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
12 cups dry bread cubes (I use Challah Bread )
½ cup raisins
¼ cup finely chopped hazelnuts (I use pecans or walnuts)

Bourbon Sauce:
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup butter
½ cup bourbon ( I use Makers Mark)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Heat milk and cream and 1/2 cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat until butter is completely melted, 3 to 5 minutes.
Mix sugar, eggs, cinnamon, and salt together in a large mixing bowl with a whisk until well blended. Stir in milk mixture. Stir in bread cubes, raisins, and hazelnuts. Let sit for 5 minutes. Pour into an ungreased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Bake, uncovered, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes.

While pudding is baking, heat brown sugar, 1 cup butter, and bourbon whiskey in a pot over medium heat, stirring constantly, until boiling and sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes. Set aside.
Pour sauce over bread pudding when done.

This is a lovely cake, that my mother made often in the fall & winter months. Sweet, cinnamon-y apples in a moist coffee cake. Perfect for ~ Rosh Hashanah ~ or any cool Autumn day.

6 apples, I use McIntosh, Pink Ladies, or Granny Smith
3 tsp cinnamon
5 tablespoons sugar
3 cups flour, sifted
3 tsp baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup vegetable oil
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
4 eggs
1 cup walnuts, chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a tube pan. Peel, core and chop apples into chunks. Toss with cinnamon and sugar and set aside.
Stir together flour, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together oil, orange juice, sugar and vanilla. Mix wet ingredients into the dry ones, then add eggs, one at a time. Scrape down the bowl to ensure all ingredients are incorporated.
Pour half of batter into prepared pan. Spread half of apples over it. Pour the remaining batter over the apples and arrange the remaining apples on top. Bake for about 1 1/2 hours, or until a tester comes out clean. Cool completely before removing from pan.
Nice with a dollop of fresh whipped cream

A modern Kitchen Guide 1946

Edit: some of you are wondering why the first recipe for Chocolate Cake, actually doesn't call for any chocolate or cocoa. Most likely it's not a printing error since this recipe book was printed in 1946.

There was a time, especially in the South, that a yellow cake with chocolate frosting was simply called, Chocolate Cake. If you notice the recipe calls to frost the cake with chocolate seven minute frosting. So that's why there is no chocolate in the cake part of the recipe. Its a yellow cake with chocolate frosting :)

Notice on the opposite page there is a recipe for boiled seven minute frosting, and a variation for making it chocolate.

Cinnamon Rock Candy - OMG😱 DON'T LOSE THIS😋
Ingredients :
1 cup water
3 3/4 cup sugar
1 1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 tsp red food coloring
1 tsp cinnamon oil (2 tsp. if you like it spicy)
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 butter, for greasing the surface
Directions :
1 butter a 15 inch x 10 inch x 1 inch sheet cake pan. Line the pan with parchment paper and butter the parchment paper, making sure the edges of the parchment paper are well buttered to prevent the candy from seeping underneath.
2 in a large deep sauce pan combine water, sugar, corn syrup and food coloring. Mix over medium high heat until sugar starts to dissolve. Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan making sure it does not touch the bottom of pan for an accurate temperature. Continue to boil until sugar mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) – about 20 minutes. Watch closely, if mixture starts to boil too close to the edge of pan remove pan from heat and stir until bubbles subside and then return to medium high heat.
3 Once mixture reaches 300°F remove pan from heat and stir in the cinnamon oil, working quickly. Keep your face away from the mixture as it is strong like onions and keep the work area well ventilated. Pour immediately into prepared pan. Allow to cool for 4 hours.
4 after 4 hours dust the top of the candy with powdered sugar. Flip candy over onto a large cutting board or cookie sheet and remove parchment paper. Return candy to the pan and use the tip of a sharp knife to break candy into bite size pieces. Dust with more powdered sugar and store in a airtight container.
