What’s Parvo??
🐾That there are 900 dogs diagnosed daily with Canine Parvovirus? That's 330,000 dogs per year in the United States!
🐾 What exactly is canine parvovirus? Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes GI imbalances in young, unvaccinated dogs. Presenting signs that are most common are: persistent vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy and anorexia.
🐾 When your puppy is having any of these symptoms we may ask you to stay in your vehicle at the time of your appointment. The reason for this is for us to ensure safety for your and other puppies. Once you are checked in a technician will come out to your vehicle and get a swab for the test. The test takes 10 minutes and during this time please stay in your vehicle. The technician will return to your vehicle to deliver the results of your test.
🐾 If the results are negative, you are welcomed into the clinic to see the doctor. If the results are positive you are given the option for hospitalization of your puppy.
🐾 Canine parvovirus is spread by direct contact with infected dogs f***s or surfaces such as kennels, water bowls, food bowls Etc. This most commonly happens when puppies are taken out into the public, unvaccinated. We highly recommend keeping your new puppy at home until they are fully vaccinated. Our doctors recommend our series of puppy boosters for prevention until your puppy is at least 6 months old.
🐾 Canine parvovirus is very serious and can be fatal. This virus is 100% preventable if the right steps are taken at a young age.
