🐾SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Watson!🐾

Meet Watson, a 10+ year-old Beagle mix who’s ready to start a new chapter in his life! Watson came to us as a stray, and after our best efforts to reunite him with his previous owners, we’ve sadly had no luck. But now, this gentle and sweet soul is looking for a fresh start, one where he can finally find the loving home he deserves.

We believe that Watson's past is rooted in hunting, spending much of his time outdoors and honing his instincts for the hunt. Having more than likely lived primarily outside, he’s known a life of freedom, but also one that lacked the comfort and companionship of a permanent home. Despite his rough beginnings, Watson has proven to be a calm, laid-back companion with a heart full of love. He’s incredibly sweet, always eager to make new friends, and has a gentle nature that makes him a joy to be around!

His demeanor is one of peace, and he is content to be around people, whether it's lounging beside them or getting a little attention. Watson loves everyone he meets and is always happy to be part of the action, without being overly demanding or excitable. His easygoing nature makes him a great match for almost any family looking for a dog who will be there for them without being a source of stress.

Although Watson’s past experience was in hunting, he’s adjusted to his new life well and is ready to settle into a comfortable routine. He may not be as active as some younger dogs, but his calm temperament makes him an ideal companion for someone seeking a relaxed dog to enjoy life with. He enjoys the simple things—long naps, gentle walks, and soaking up the attention he deserves.

Meet one of our favorite 4-legged friends, Karli!

Karli has a smooshable, loveable face that we cannot believe hasn't got her a home yet! Karli came to us as a stray in NOVEMBER and, to be honest, when we first met her we were a little concerned. She had a noticeable head tilt and her head and body "wobbled" pretty dramatically. We rushed her to the Vet and they were able to rule out all the scary things, concluding that Karli had probably suffered a head injury at birth that caused her tremors and wobbles!

Thankfully, it doesn't slow her down AT ALL and this wonderful and wobbly girl LOVES to run and play! Karli is good with her doggy room mates here at the shelter and bonds quickly with new people. She is a loyal and protective companion and would be ideal for someone who just needs a constant little buddy at their side! Karli is working on house training and is very smart and eager to please, so we feel that she would be an easy addition to your home!

🐾~Heartworm Disease~🐾

Many pet owners opt out of heartworm prevention during the Fall and Winter months, but what most don’t realize is that pets need year-round prevention! If a dog comes into contact with an infected mosquito during the Summer, it can take several months for the heartworm larvae to mature to the point that they would even be detectable on a blood test. Testing 5-7 months AFTER possible exposure and keeping the pet on monthly preventative offers the most complete protection.

In 2024, our shelter and clinic alone diagnosed 109 cases of canine Heartworm. It is RAMPANT in this area of the country. Treatment is a long, expensive, and painful process so prevention is key! If not treated, heartworms can be fatal. You can NOT tell that a dog has heartworm disease by looking at them. There are NO visual indicators. The results can only be determined by a blood test.

Our recommended protocol for preventing heartworm in dogs is:

🐾Start puppies on prevention at 8 weeks
💕Begin testing at 6 months
🐾Keep dog on monthly heartworm prevention
💕Maintain annual testing

Our clinic offers low-cost heartworm testing on a walk-in basis. It involves a quick blood draw and test results are back within minutes. Testing is required prior to purchasing prevention. Having your dog on a heartworm regimen is one of the easiest ways to avoid a catastrophic diagnosis!

~UPDATE: ADOPTED!!!~

Cricket never imagined that, at almost 14 years old, she would have to be starting over. She thought she'd have a lifelong home and be enjoying her golden years basking in sunbeams and snuggling on the couch, not sitting behind cage bars.

Unfortunately, due to the very sad circumstances of her beloved owner passing away, Cricket found herself here. She has been a primarily indoor cat and has lived with other pets without issue! She might be elderly, but she still loves to eat and loves to snuggle! She has a great appetite and LOVES her canned food as a treat! The reason that Cricket is considered a "hospice" candidate is because of her age and the fact that she does have some mammary tumors. We don't know if they are cancerous, but diagnostics at her age probably would not change the outcome.

Cricket is looking for a nice calm indoor home where she can go back to feeling like she belongs...please give this precious senior a soft place to fall and all of the love that she deserves!

Found outside on a freezing winter night, Stuart’s journey began with a stroke of luck and kindness. Despite the chilly start to his story, this tiny survivor is full of life, love, and an abundance of personality.

Stuart is incredibly social—he adores human interaction and thrives on companionship. Unlike most mice who prefer to scurry away, Stuart loves to be held, often curling up in the warmth of a gentle hand. His sweet nature makes him a joy to be around, and he never fails to bring a smile to those who meet him.

Most importantly, Stuart is not a feeder mouse—he is a cherished pet, deserving of love, care, and all the best things in life. Whether he’s exploring his habitat, nibbling on treats, or enjoying snuggles, Stuart is proof that even the smallest creatures can leave the biggest impressions.

🌟 Meet Waylon: Your Future Workout Buddy & Best Friend 🌟

Waylon has been with us since 10/21/2024, and this long-time resident is ready for a fresh start! He came in as a stray with his sister, who’s since found her forever home, but Waylon is still waiting. While he’s thrilled to share his toys and loves playing with other dogs, he’s not exactly a fan of feline friends—he wasn’t socialized with cats, and it’s just a preference he can’t help. But let’s focus on the good stuff—Waylon is a strong, healthy boy with a heart of gold, and he’s looking for someone to share his life with!

Waylon might need a little help on the leash (he’s a bit of a "bodybuilder" when it comes to walks—he likes to lift weights on the side 😎), but that’s nothing a little patience and training can’t fix. Is a strong leash pull really what’s stopping you from adopting this good boy? Waylon is a playful, affectionate pup who just wants a buddy to go on walks, play tug-of-war, and be his best self. He’s not asking for much—just someone to appreciate his strength and energy, and maybe share in his love for a good workout session.

Hey, folks! We could use your help! Because the weather has been so cold and nasty lately, our dogs have been spending most of their time in their kennels. They have a ton of pent up energy and frustration, and we would LOVE to see them have a day where they are finally WORN OUT at bedtime.

Of course, the dogs here have been getting several potty breaks a day, but they have really been missing the sniffing-exploring-running-socializing-one-on-one time that comes when volunteers take the dogs for nice long walks and runs. The weather is supposed to be nice and mild tomorrow, so if you have the strength and enengy to come give some rambunctious dogs some exercise, we would REALLY appreciate it! Exercise is SO important for the dogs' mental and physical wellbeing.
