February’s Pet of the month is Bella, who is owned by my mother, Sue Smith. My mother and I rescued her from BG Manors parking lot, not knowing she was about to give birth. She spent her first couple of months in a foster home ( someone I personally know) and all of her kittens were adopted. The foster mom had no luck placing Bella so my mom felt inclined to become a cat owner, even though she’d only ever owned dogs. Bella is a beautiful, calm, loving cat and a wonderful companion for my mom. We are blessed to have her!

January’s pet of the month is Oliver, who was named after his mother, Olivia. He came to be with the Aungst family after they had researched small dog breeds for 10 months. Prior to having Oliver they had always rescued but after watching their border collie, Lucy, suffer (due to a tick bite that occurred before their ownership) and only having her for four years, they decided to go through a breeder. Oliver loves camping, and begging for ice and string cheese. He has claimed the living room furniture as his own. As soon as a human leaves their seat on the couch, he quickly takes “the warm spot.” Every time! I am thankful that I’m able to spend time with him each week. He is a great dog! Don’t you love that smile?

This months Pet of The Month is in memory of Dodger, aka Dodgie or Rodgie Dodgie. Dodger was a beagle and jack russell mix. He lived a wonderful 15 year with Donna Cousino. My daughter and I had the privilege caring for him for 6 years. He loved sunbathing and watching the birds. Remarkably, he did not like to chase the rabbits out of the garden when they tried to eat all the vegetables! Thank you Donna for your years of business and kindness, and giving us the opportunity to create unforgettable memories with Dodger.

September sweetness from these 4 fur babies, who are owned by Jodi Serrato (actually Oliver is owned by her daughter, but they all reside under 1 roof). Swiper, age 18 has to be the most loving cat I've ever known and deserves an award for living with 3 dogs! Nala, the lab, is 10 and she patiently endures all the puppy shenanigans from Oliver (white shi-tzu) and Max(black shih tzu) who are care-free, happy puppies. At a very young age, Max showed some "attitude" but has really made strides in becoming a good listener. I'm so proud of him! I always look forward to spending time with these friends!

Lupo is a 2.5 year old male who was adopted by Juan and Natalie Carillo 6 months ago from the Lucas County Animal Control. He won them over by wagging his tail and showering them with kisses. At the time of his adoption, he knew no commands but proved to be a fast learner- motivated by treats. We ( his owners and I) had to be patient during his basic training,but who could not love this 75 pound bundle of cuteness? It has been a pleasure to care for Lupo!

Meet Benji! He is July's pet of the month. Benji's story is unique in that I found him at the Conneaut hill. So very friendly and healthy yet no one claimed him. Fortunately I was able to call Jane

June’s Pet of the Month is Vito. He is almost 12 years old ( in July) and is a Bichon Frise. Vito belongs to a fellow BGHS classmate, Nancy Lee. He is a joy to be with and likes to show off by doing a dance on his hind legs while “ clapping” his front paws together. It brings a smile to my face each and every time. Millie is Pet of the month. She is a 4 year old Yorkie and a delight to be with. Millie’s owner is no longer able to walk her so we are walking her twice a day. While she is terrified of the mail truck, UPS, Fed X, lawn mowers, etc ., she is still fun to walk. She loves people and gets along with other dogs. Many people remark about how cute she is and I agree! Thanks, Millie, for being my walking friend!

Introducing Bailey- March pet of the month. Bailey belongs to long time client, Jan Lyon. Bailey is a shih tzu and is approaching her 12th birthday in May. Jan says “Bailey was heaven sent” as she was mourning the loss of her first dog. Bailey has beautiful eyes - one is blue, and the other is blue and brown. She can shake hands with both paws and loves to catch her toys. Once Bailey gets to know you, she’ll be your forever friend. Bailey is a real sweetheart, and I’m lucky to be part of her life!

Greetings! I hope you are staying safe and healthy. While most pet tips focus on cats and dogs, this month’s focus is on wildlife. Please consider a wildlife habitat for your backyard during these winter months as it becomes more challenging for the birds and squirrels to find food. Place a variety of feeders out, including corn and peanuts. Then sit back and enjoy! It’s a beautiful way to start your day... watching all the different animals you’ll attract.

It’s a New Year and a new dog... for my friend Kristi. This sweetheart was transported from a Cleveland shelter to
the Wood County Humane Society. She is approximately 4-5 years old and a wonderful dog. She is adapting well in her new home and loves her plush dog beds. I look forward to getting to know her better, and we are thankful for the opportunity to share life with her.

December’s Pet of the Month is Buddy. He resided at the Wood County Humane Society, and was able to go to a foster home here in BG. While his foster mom had fostered other dogs, Buddy tugged at her heart strings and she adopted him. Her motto is “ Adopt.. don’t shop. Plenty of dogs needing homes in the shelters”. I am 100% behind this. Your forever friend is just waiting for his/her forever home. Buddy is very loving, obedient, and fun to be with. A guaranteed smile would be on your face if you witnessed the zoomies as he races around his yard. 😁

Happy fall! Happy October! This is a beautiful season with crisp air mornings and amazing changing leaves. This months pet of the month is Lola, owned by Anne ( my sister) and Scott Litton. This little peanut is 11 weeks old and a bundle of fun! Lola is a poodle, cocker spaniel mix. Her favorite things to play with are slippers and the cats tail! Surprisingly, the cat tolerates her! Although she may be tiny, she carries around a full size tennis ball and enjoys fetch. Next up for this little one? Learning to walk on a leash. I bet she’ll catch on fast. 😊🐾💕
