We wish to thank all of our supporters who helped support our Texas Sanctuary for so many years. The facility has a long history of caring for rescued Lions, Tigers, Bears, Wolves and many other species of exotic animals. However, with the facility being so small and surrounded by development, we were unable to expand and improve the enclosures for the animals - so we have chosen to relocate our animals to massive natural habitats at our two Colorado sanctuary locations. Many of the amazing animals that lived here with us now have incredibly natural spaces to live in with others of their own kind, so we are very happy for them. If you would like to follow them in their new locations, please follow The Wild Animal Sanctuary's main page or visit their website at wildanimalsanctuary.org.

If you guessed Ocelot on yesterday's post, you were correct!

Ocelots are primarily a light in color (almost golden) with white-ish fur on the belly. They have an arrangement of black or brown spots over their body. Ocelots have 2 stripes down their cheeks and bands of black rings on the ends of their tail. How beautiful!

Our Story

The purpose and goals of The Wild Animal Sanctuary-TEXAS (also known as - IEAS) are to provide a permanent sanctuary for exotic animals that have been abused, abandoned, neglected, confiscated, or previously owned by people unwilling or unable to provide for these magnificent beings. Additionally, TWAS-TEXAS educates the public through school programs, tour lectures, support for conservation programs, and public appearances about the value and worth of these sensitive, intelligent and perceptive animals, so that their future, as an important part of our world, is insured. We are committed to strengthening and promoting conservation education and other avenues to foster conservation in which we can participate. Our major goal is to give the resident animals the best quality of life we can give them in captivity through our Enrichment Program, which deals with the well-being of each individual animal and its individual needs. We do this to give each animal the best life it can have in captivity, and by understanding what is required to achieve that goal.
