It’s been a while since this page was active, so let me re-introduce myself! I’m Elise Freed Mathers of Pearl Classical Dressage, a riding instructor offering classical dressage-based riding instruction in Northern Michigan.
Dressage boiled down is so much more than white breeches and show ring movements: it’s working with your horse’s biomechanics to bring out their best selves. This training can be applied in the traditional show arena, navigating obstacles on the trail with grace, balancing your horse to run their best barrel pattern yet, or even simply riding a horse who is more in-tune with you, rather than a stiff concrete block under saddle.
My background is founded in classical dressage through years of riding with the Bereiters of the Spanish Riding School, graduating as a B level United States Pony Club member, and incorporating the horse-first handling of natural horsemanship. I’ve grown up with 4H and high school equestrian team, ridden my dressage horses with cows and taken them swimming, shown H/J, eventing, and western dressage, and for 2024 I’m even adding combined driving to my list of things I’m learning! Plus, as an Elementary Special Education teacher, I bring additional understanding of learning styles and teaching methods to help you learn the way that suits you.
Offering horseback riding lessons to all ages and stages, training rides, purchase consulting, and a healthy 2024 show season schedule planned. Based in Boyne City, MI.
