🚨Owner Update!🚨Oakley's owners have been working with him a lot after his 2 Week Board & Train. Before training, Oakley had run into the street and was clipped by a car. His owners wanted to ensure he had good off-leash obedience and respected boundaries around roads. Check out the work they have been working on with him! “Toshi” the 10 month old Boerboel came to us to work on his obedience skills. 💪 He had some prior training, but struggled with his consistency and overall confidence. “Max” finished his 3 Week Board & Train today. 💙 He came to us as a last hope due to the severity of his behavior. His owners had spent years dealing with these behaviors and were at the point where they were unable to take him out of the house or have new people or dogs in his space due to the level he would escalate to. 🚨 Going to the vet or groomer required full sedation, and even his owners were unable to handle him for basic care needs. During his time with us, he found excitement in being around things that he was previously fearful of and really leaned into leadership. He was able to develop routines around grooming and handling that his owners will be able to use to continue to build his confidence in these areas. 💪Today they learned how to work with his new skills and now get to start applying them at home. “Jaxon” is one goofy pup! He and his housemate “Jake” have been rebuilding their confidence with each other after a big scuffle. 💙Jaxon has lots of energy, but that combined with his under-confidence and pushiness led to some bullying that ultimately was leading to fights. Why is “confidence” a word that you hear used so much in dog training? 🤔 A dog’s confidence often directly correlates to any behavioral issues that are seen including reactivity, fear, or anxiety. In the most basic sense, confidence building is teaching a dog how to problem solve and work through situations on their own. 💪 This can relate to social situations, or a simple obstacle that they might encounter in their environment. We focus on confidence building in as many areas as possible in training. 💯 One command that is always lots of fun for both the owners and the dogs is the “place” command. “Max” has been with us for 2 weeks now. When his owners got him as an 8 week old puppy, they struggled with pushy and fearful behaviors. 😰 Over time, he continued to learn how to get his way, often resorting to biting. 🚨 As a result, they were dealing with severe reactivity and aggression both towards them and other people, and it had gotten to the point that they were unable to take him out of the house and were running out of options. Max is incredibly under-confident and needed an overhaul regarding his understanding of pressure. His level of fear and frustration was so deeply ingrained that his response to things was often automatic.💥 It took us several days to gain his trust, and these past two weeks have been focused on teaching a new associations with pressure and changing his relationship with leadership. 💪 He’s now been able to work in various environments around people and dogs.🧍♂️He is successfully learning how to relax during handling and grooming, which his owners have been unsuccessful with up to this point. He has one week of training left, and we are so proud of him for his progress! ✨ His trust grows more each day as his confidence also grows.
