Musical place with puppy class!🐾

Puppy class is designed to help you understand your puppy and set you up for success as your puppy grows and develops. You can expect to learn both basic and advanced skills, experience proper puppy socialization, and, most importantly, establish successful communication between you and your puppy and learn how your puppy processes the world around them. These factors are based on your puppy’s unique personality, genetics, and motivators. This knowledge can be used to help shape a confident, well-rounded dog for the many years ahead. We cover more advanced concepts such as using duration, distance, and distraction to build your puppy’s obedience.

Have you heard about Back-To-Pack?🐾

Back-To-Pack is a highly controlled and monitored social program for dogs who may be harboring trauma from being bullied or attacked in previous encounters with aggressive or reactive dogs. Back-To-Pack is also offered to dogs who are introverted, sensitive, worried, or lack confidence when it comes to sharing space with other dogs. By controlling the flow of movement and space the dogs will be socializing in, this program can build stoicism, confidence, subtlety, and grace into your dog’s social toolbelt. For the dogs who may have had a poor experience with other dogs and have shown signs that their social behavior has changed or are at risk of changing, Back-To-Pack will provide a safe and highly controlled environment with well-balanced dogs to help your dog recover from their past experiences and rebalance their social skills, their trust, and their behavior around other like-minded dogs.

Announcing our Day Training Program for Off-Leash Reliability with the E-Collar!🐾

Grant your dog the freedom to be off-leash with reliable and consistent verbal recall with the assistance of an e-collar. If your dog struggles with prey drive, has boundary issues, has a lack of impulse control, or simply won’t listen to you, we can work with you to achieve reliable recall with your dog. With the fair, measured use of an e-collar, you make your dog a reliable off-leash companion. If your dog has had previous e-collar training, but you feel as though they need a refresher or that they need to be re-trained, we can help you with that as well.

This is a structured training program that offers off-leash reliability with the use of an e-collar that runs Monday-Friday for two consecutive weeks. Both Lindsey and Joe train the dog together the first week, and then Lindsey hikes the dog via on the second week.

Next start date: Monday, July 29th & Monday, August 12th

Allow us to introduce Lindsey, our trainer and office manager to you all!

Hi, I’m Lindsey! I was born and raised in the Gallatin Valley and am proud to call Bozeman home. My journey with animals began with my own dogs, Kaia and Rori, where I discovered a passion that would shape my career with opening my own dog hiking business. It’s extremely rewarding to be working for Black Diamond K9 because what we do in training directly compliments what I do with my pack hike pups. My journey continues to be driven by a love for dogs and a commitment to their well-being. Each day brings new opportunities to connect with dogs and their owners, fostering a community where everyone thrives.

Lindsey is a lifesaver. Without her professionalism and her attention to detail, we would not have been able to grow as a company, navigate our rebrand smoothly, and add our new services. I am so grateful to have Lindsey join the team!

Hello everyone, we have some new followers so figured this would be the perfect time to reintroduce Joe Williams, the owner of Black Diamond K9. Below is his story.

I fell into training dogs during my senior year of college at The University of Montana. When I got my Dutch Shepherd, Rex, I didn’t have a clue how much he would change my life and make an impact on my future. When a 19-year-old student gets a 4-month-old Dutch Shepherd, a dog specifically bred for police and military applications, you get problems. A lot of problems. This was the catalyst.
After a year and a half of escalating issues that I didn’t know how to address, I knew I had to do something to save my dog and save myself from heartbreak. I put Rex into an intensive board & train program to give him the support and structure he needed, and to give myself the ability to provide him with those same things. After many weeks of training, Rex was back at home with me, with the ability to handle our day-to-day life with poise and confidence. Rex’s trainer offered me a part-time apprenticeship as she saw a natural ability within me. The rest is history. Over a decade later, here I am, offering all I have learned and experienced to the community that has given me so many opportunities.

Last night the leash walking class participated in some fun drills!

Our leash walking class specifically focuses on developing superb loose leash walking skills with a strong additional focus on handling and public access. Public access skills refer to the ability of a dog to be calm, collected, and under control when out and about in public.

This clip is from last week’s Back-To-Pack.
Here I am starting the afternoon session. I start by having my personal dogs out first (Whippet, Border Collie, Dutch Shepherd) as well as any other dog that is appropriate and I know I understand and can redirect (Border Collie). I start by getting the most trustworthy and least invasive dogs out first, and go through our roster one by one by this order. The dogs to come out towards the end are the dogs that have the most amount of triggers, the most sensitive, or the carry the most risk. These are the dogs that Back-To-Pack (BTP) are meant for. Funny enough, I actually let out the dogs that carry no trauma or worry out last. These two (German Shepherd & Golden Retriever) are perfectly friendly dogs, but, since there are sensitive dogs in this room, they cannot approach, sniff, or interact with most of the dogs here. This is not because they won’t be friendly and I don’t trust them, but rather they would innocently trigger the dog that they approach. And that’s not fair to the BTP dogs. I need to show the BTP dogs that they can trust me, and they can trust the other dogs here. If I am negligent to that fact, that BTP dog can continue to lose trust, and feel justified in their reaction, especially if it works. The cycle must be broken.

I ran out of room. More in the comments.
