Tuesday Glow up! ⭐️

Rabbits use their incisor teeth for grasping, tearing, and slicing through vegetation. While many will normally wear their teeth down, we do see some rabbits that need to have their teeth trimmed.

Dental care is very important for rabbit health, as they require constant foraging to keep their GI system functioning properly. Schedule an appointment for a veterinarian to check your rabbit’s teeth annually for overgrowth or malocclusion. 🐇🦷

Dental month isn’t just for our small animals- it’s for our equine patients too! All equine dental floats performed in clinic are $80 off for the month of Febuary!

Yes- horses need dental care too! Horse’s lower row of teeth are closer together than the upper row. Since horses chew with a sideways motion, the teeth may not wear evenly. Preventative maintenance of a horse’s mouth should be addressed annually.

The most common dental problems in horses include:

- Sharp enamel points forming on the cheek teeth, causing lacerations of the cheek and tongue.
- Malocclusion of eruption and wear affecting individual teeth, referred to as hooks or a wave.
- Lost or fractured teeth.

Horses may show signs of dental problems by losing weight, dropping feed, or fighting the bit. However, most will show no signs at all. Nasal discharge, odor from the mouth, or jaw swelling may be present in more severe dental cases.

It is important to have a veterinarian perform dental checks annually to keep your equine partner feeling the best. Call today to schedule!
