Welcome to Wellness Wednesday.
Let's talk Spaying & Neutering.
In general there are more reasons to spay/neuter than there are not to.

Benefits of Spaying (females):
🐾 No heat cycles, therefore males will not be attracted.
🐾 Less desire to roam
🐾 Risk of mammary gland tumors, ovarian and/or uterine cancer is reduced or
eliminated, especially if done before the first heat cycle
🐾 Reduces number of unwanted cats/kittens/dogs/puppies
🐾 Helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives

Benefits of Neutering (males):
🐾 Reduces or eliminates risk of spraying and marking
🐾 Less desire to roam, therefore less likely to be injured in fights or auto accidents
🐾 Risk of testicular cancer is eliminated, and decreases incidence of prostate
disease
🐾 Reduces number of unwanted cats/kittens/dogs/puppies
🐾 Decreases aggressive behavior, including dog bites
🐾 Helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives

Here are 3 tips to stay safe at dog parks:
🐾 Bring your own bowl and water. Insure that your dog gets fresh clean water while they play.
🐾 Always assess the dog park crowd. Watch for dogs that are not respectful of other dogs spaces or bully type behavior. Make sure YOU walk your do into the dog park, not the other way around.
🐾 Take some cool off breaks in the shade.

It's meet a Furry Friend Friday!!
We had the honor to make friends with this blue eyes beautiful boy!
Meet Ezra. A 9 week 20lb bundle of floof and kisses. He came in for his first puppy visit. What treat for us all.
In addition, his pet parents were so proud to share how well behaved he is and how much care and training he is receiving. They are putting in the work. 👍🏽
He already learned to sit
and his potty training is going very well. Such a smart and eager little big man. He is off to a great start.
We look forward to watching him grow and become a gentleman.

Welcome to Wellness Wednesday.
Heartworms are easily spread from host to host by mosquitoes.
We live in the perfect environment for mosquitoes to thrive. Rain, heat, mild winters and unprotected animals provide the perfect recipe for disaster.
One of our goals is to educate pet parents on how we can prevent disease.
We talk about prevention at all of our wellness visits and unfortunately, at some of our sick visits. Prevention is the only way to protect your fur kids from all sorts of parasites.
How do you know if your dog has heartworms?
Here are some of the signs that your dog may have contracted heartworms:
🐾 Mild, persistent cough
🐾 Reluctance to exercise
🐾 Fatigue after moderate activity
🐾 Decreased appetite
🐾 Weight loss
🐾 Difficulty breathing
🐾 Fluid-filled, swollen abdomen (“belly”)

It's time to meet a Furry Friend.
Meet Ace!
This sweet little Chihuahua boy was the star of the show for his visit. He came in a little apprehensive about all the different smells and sounds, but with some extra TLC he came right out of his shell and bonded with Dr Berarducci.
We strive every day to take the fear out of veterinary visits for our patients. A little cheese, a little love and before you know it we are all friends.
Remember Pet Parents, practice visits with your fur kids at home. This helps get them used to us looking in their mouths, ears, eyes, holding their paws, legs etc.
Fear free is our goal. 💕🐾

Welcome to Wellness Wednesday.
Did you know that fleas have been around for millions of years!?
They have been feeding on living creatures for a long time and have perfected the art of survival. They have figured out that our homes are the perfect environment for them to thrive. Plenty of hosts to feed on, perfect temperature and humidity, not to mention all the awesome places to lay eggs.
We have seen a spike in flea related veterinary visits recently. Pet parents are frustrated and pet kids are miserable. Fur kids that are left unprotected suffer with skin infections, allergies to flea saliva and parasitic infections from these relentless bloodsuckers.

This gentleman stole our hearts.
As you can see in the first picture he was a bit apprehensive about his visit.
We sat and got to know each other better and before you know it he was all snuggles.
With every visit we do everything we can to gain their trust. Sometimes it just takes a conversation and some TLC to make all the difference.

Welcome to our Wellness Wednesdays!
Here are 6 tips to help keep your fur kid protected against parasites.
🐾 Year round parasite prevention. Your home is the perfect environment for parasites to thrive regardless of what the weather is.
🐾 Clean up your pets p**p. Some parasites can get into the soil and live there happily until your furry friend steps on it and ingests it when cleaning themselves.
🐾 Regular bathing helps keep external parasites at bay and allows you to do a regular skin check.
🐾 Annual parasite screening like heartworm and intestinal parasite testing gives you the peace of mind that your prevention is doing it's job.
🐾 Our sneakers/shoes step in all sorts of things around town. You walk around your home with those same shoes. Guess who you just let into your home? Parasites!

Wellness Wednesday! Allergies - Let's talk about it!

Allergic reactions come from so many different triggers. From flea saliva to native grasses. Our cat and dog friends are coming in for veterinary visits for ear infections, hair loss, red itchy inflamed and infected skin. It negatively affects both fur kids and pet parents. Having pet insurance can give you the peace of mind knowing you never have to compromise your fur kid's health care. Here are 3 tips to help keep allergies at bay: 1) Essential fatty acids & clean ingredient diets. Don't forget healthy grains like barley! 2) Bathing with a soothing hypoallergenic shampoo every 3-4 weeks and wiping our paws after playing outside. Great time to look for fleas, sores or changes to our skin and coat. Remember parasite prevention! 3) Use a ph balancing, ear drying ear cleaner once a week and also after bathing, grooming or swimming. Let us know how we can help!
