Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that is found worldwide in soil and water. There are many strains of 'Leptospira' and many mammals are vulnerable. It is most often spread through the urine of an infected animal, especially wild rodents.
Exposure to or drinking from slow moving/stagnant water sources, roaming on rural properties, and exposure to wild/farm animals can put dogs at higher risk.
Signs in dogs vary and even the ones who dont show any may still carry and pass the bacteria in their urine.
Leptospirosis is one of the most widespread diseases in the world, meaning it can spread from animals to people.
According to AAHA and AVMA, Leptospirosis is now considered a 'core' vaccine.
If you have any questions about the vaccine, call and schedule an appointment with your Vet to see about getting started or updating their vaccine. 🐾🐾

It's National Yorkshire Terrier Day!
During World War II, a Yorkie named Smoky is credited with saving the lives of soldiers by dragging a communications cable through an 8inch wide by 60ft long drainage culvert. She is also thought to be the world's first therapy dog visiting soldiers in the hospital. There are 6 US based memorials honoring Smoky, including one in AKC's Museum of Dog and one international memorial in Australia.🐶🐶🐾🐾❤️

Did you know the Boxer wasn't imported to the US until after World War I. They didn't reach popularity until the late 1930s. Did you know the breed originated in England. English Bulldogs were bred with terriers and pugs to reduce their size. They then became very popular and during the Industrial Revolution, many people immigrated to France with their pups. What was thought as a flaw, became a hit with French Bohemian's, writers, artists, fashion designers, and working girls all over Paris. If you have one, you know these dogs were made for the water ( with the exception of those who hate it😅😅). Their thick tail, which is sometimes called an otter tail, is used as a powerful rudder. Wellness Wednesday! Allergies - Let's talk about it!

Allergic reactions come from so many different triggers. From flea saliva to native grasses. Our cat and dog friends are coming in for veterinary visits for ear infections, hair loss, red itchy inflamed and infected skin. It negatively affects both fur kids and pet parents. Having pet insurance can give you the peace of mind knowing you never have to compromise your fur kid's health care. Here are 3 tips to help keep allergies at bay: 1) Essential fatty acids & clean ingredient diets. Don't forget healthy grains like barley! 2) Bathing with a soothing hypoallergenic shampoo every 3-4 weeks and wiping our paws after playing outside. Great time to look for fleas, sores or changes to our skin and coat. Remember parasite prevention! 3) Use a ph balancing, ear drying ear cleaner once a week and also after bathing, grooming or swimming. Let us know how we can help!
